Can noise be caused by weather? or only by other Ap's /cordless devices of a close frequency????????????????

What cause noise late at night???
Dogs farting?

Goats wandering around in the kitchen? (More than once...they figured out how to use the doggie door)

indeed plenty of causes of noise... at 2.4 / 5 Ghz frequencies you can also get thermal ducting, we once had a complaint from a WiSP over 200 miles away that our signal was interfering with theirs on 5 G ..

Was all down to ducting (signals travelling between warm/cold air layers via difraction), microwaves will travel a long way via this..

I can only imagine that such conditions would be particularly fatal to 2.4 GHz due to the considerable usage density and limited channels...

a commercial radio station outlines it here >

Thank you... but could the fog be a reason for increasing the floor noise? i'm asking this because it happens only late at night at 4:00 almost on a regular basis of every 2-3 days.. maybe 4, but when it happens the link gets s@ky A LOT.. noise goes from -92-4 to 100+ and the signal strength from -70-80 to 95-99!!!!! wtf! a better antenna on the both sides maybe it could help i guess, but yet again i am not so sure about this, as from what i see when i do "survey" from the 30-40 AP's only 2-3 are visible when this happens....... wtf  my s@ky region!

and WHT, WTF? there are no goats or dogs around here, i've heard only about dolphins getting monitored by devices with webcams attached on them, but yet i am not so sure about the frequency

Anyway, im going to read the article now thanks

well i think i got my answer after all

We realize that this does not help to improve reception in your area. Unfortunately, it is beyond our ability to correct.

Damn it!

dolphins getting monitored by devices with webcams attached on themAlready did that with one of my dogs, one of the goats is next. Also have a saddlehorn mounted webcam on my horse saddle.

ok enough with your animal abuse, i will report you to the green peace!!! can u tell me if there is any workarrounds with the "beyond our ability to correct" thing?

Nothing that is economically feasible. It can be overcome, but is it worth it to you?

If i consider that, when this happens my device can not "see" 40 AP's between one of them, is the official metropolitan town network, 3-4 blocks only away from me, and they use super antennas.. then i cant even think about the cost.

Thank the god, (the main responsible one for braking my link) i haven't those experiences lately..

The topo ducting mentioned above is not going to affect a link a mere 3 or 4 blocks. You may have other problems going one.

from what I see you have no noise issues; -92/4 to -100dBm is normal

what is effecting the link is poor SNR (signal to noise ratio)

as this is a modular signal the SNR calculation is linear:

Noise Floor: -92dBm

RSSI: -70 to -80dBm

SNR when RSSI is at -70dBm = 22dBm

SNR when RSSI is at -80dBm= 12dBm

the greater the SNR the more throughput you can achieve

now to your RSSI. it should never vary more than 3dBm, but from what you are saying it is varying up to 10dBm (-70 to -80dBm), this leads me to think you have a panning issue.

i would need to know antennae types at each end before i commented more, but lets say you are using 2 x 9 degree flat panels; if this was the case then i would say you have an issue with panning (5-10 degrees off pan)

if you need any more help just PM me

hope this helps

:D
