This is my post, copied from the Mikrotik forums, no solution reached yet. Anyone have some ideas?

Hi all,

I am having a problem.

When trying to connect a couple towers to my currently working 5ghz Sector antenna I get association timeout & authentication timeout errors. However, if I leave the interfaces enabled, they might at times associate for as long as 2-3hrs or 5-10mins, currently I have the interfaces disabled.

the error XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX@wlan1: failed to connect, on 5***, association timeout
the error XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX@wlan1: failed to connect, on 5***, authentication timeout

Situation:
AP Tower- XR5 + 16db H-Pol Sector (Origionally had R52h)
Client Tower 1 - R52h - 23db Panel - 5 Miles (-64db to -69db)
Client Tower 2 - XR5 23db Panel - 13miles (First had r52h) (-72db to -74db)
Client Tower 3 - XR5 28db Grid - 12miles(first had r52h) (-60db to -62db)

______________________________________________
Client 1 has not had problems
Client 2 + 3 are having problems

I have tried:
setting static ACK on all towers
switching nstreme on/off
switching cards (on all non working points)
multiple frequencies (from 5500 to 5780)
10 and 20mhz channel sizes

I have not tried:
Switching Cable or Antenna on "AP Tower"

Problem #2 & #3 (possibly related?)
#2 - will sometimes report a signal as much as 10db-20db lower than first stated. It will show this signal for as long as 10-20mins, I will leave it and come back with signal strengths restored to original strengths (happens on both non working towers)
#3 - tower will not connect on 20mhz with no nstreme (on Client 1 - 5mile connection that would normally be fine)

Any feedback would be appreciated

Thanks,
Josh

Hello,

Have you tried with a different MikroTik board?

Thanks,

Mike

I have seen this problem on another Main Tower with another 5ghz Sector to Tower #2 (from first post) - 14 miles this time at -79 db

I have used RB/600 on all towers mentioned. (smaller towers that only warrant RB/433's are not tall enough to see 14miles away) :(

on all occasions it was -80dBm or better, but still the timeout. I think perhaps it's seeing a refraction of signals and there were to many corrupted packets over such a long distance.

The current applications have only found this phonomanon existing on PtMP 5ghz Sectors.

Soon I'll be trying a PtP at the first mentioned hop, I'll let ya know how it goes.

This is my limited experience talking, if anyone has some facts or an alternate hypothesis please speak up.

Thanks,

Josh
