I am to considering providing WiFi to a subdivision of duplexs, four plexes, and eight plexes. I am considering using Pico2s to do this. The units would be mounted on the roofs of certain plexes and will the end users will have standard 2.4GHz wireless cards.

1.) What type of range should I expect from each Pico?
2.) Would it be best to SSIDs and channels the same on all units or would they interfere with one another?
3.) I need to determine the best way to allow only certain users to access the service - what is the best way to do this? Is AirOS capable of this or should I try something like DD-WRT?

Outdoor access point to an indoor wireless card?

More than 500 feet, but less than 1,500 feet is an educated estimate.

Yes, outdoor access points to indoor wireless cards.

That's about the range I anticipate, thanks for your input WHT.

WHT or anyone else - do you have answers to the remaining 2 questions?

2.) Would it be best to SSIDs and channels the same on all units or would they interfere with one another?

If you try to reuse a channel within range of another, it won't work. I'd use similar looking SSIDs and let them connect to the strongest one.

3.) I need to determine the best way to allow only certain users to access the service.

MAC address authentication or a Radius server and have them PPoE.
