A new version of the AirView Spectrum Analyzer application (v1.0.07) has been released and available from the AirView downloads page (http://www.ubnt.com/airview/downloads.php).

New features/fixes in this release are:
AirView9 900MHz channel usage chart support. Channel span is fixed to 5MHz for AirView9.

Fixed a waveform chart bug which was causing a lot of power-level hits not to be properly aged-out and removed from the chart, causing a major slow-down of the UI refresh rates after several hours of operation.

Better noise-floor calculation and tracking algorithm.

Much better waveform chart visualization - Smoother graduation of color shades vs. the previous very limited primary colors.

Streamlined/cleaned-up the device discovery and reset code paths to alleviate a corner-case bug.

Corrected a typo in the help pages.

Reduced restrictions on required memory to 256MB, and removed screen size restrictions.

The installers are designed to install right over the older versions if found. Give this release a try and let us know if you find any issues.

NOTE: Although AirView9 support is now in the app, the devices aren't quite ready for release. They're coming soon and will be announced on this forum when they're available.

A new version of the AirView Spectrum Analyzer application (v1.0.08) has been released and available from the AirView downloads page (http://www.ubnt.com/airview/downloads.php).

New features/fixes in this release are:
Linux support. As of this time only the Sun Java 6 JRE is supported and must be installed. Other GNU-supplied JREs do not appear to work and are not supported. Testing has been done on Redhat (and offshoots - ie: Centos 5.x/Fedora 9/10) and Ubuntu distros.

Fixed a minor bug related to About and Preferences dialog box labels.

The Windows and Mac installers are designed to install right over the older versions if found.

The Linux install isn't as fancy as the Windows/Mac installs, but not too much hassle either.
Un-tar the release file. (ie: tar xvf AirView-Spectrum-Analyzer-v1.0.08.tar.gz) - A directory with the same name same as the release file name should be created one level down.
Switch to that directory and invoke ./airview.sh.

There is currently no checking for proper JRE and/or any other startup checks in the script. So, let us know if this does not work for your distro.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Linux user account needs to be made a member of the following groups for the AirView UI app to be able to locate and communicate with the USB device on Linux:
RedHat/Fedora/Centos (and other offshoots): uucp AND lock - Must be members of BOTH.
Ubuntu (and its offshoots): dialout
openSUSE: dialout, uucp, and lock (all 3!)
After having edited and saved /etc/group please make sure you LOGOUT of your X session, otherwise your user group memberships will not be updated. I've even heard from one user that when running under a VMWare VM you need to completely reboot your machine. But beware, running AirView under VMWare may work but is not supported at this time.

Also, AirView relies on sysfs and the udev pkg to retrieve certain device info during its discovery process. Most distros have the udevadm command available. udevadm is required for AirView to work on Linux. If your distro does not have udevadm command available, it's very likely that you don't have the udev package installed. You'll need to install it before you can run AirView application on your Linux distro.

Give this release a try and let us know if you find any other issues.

A new version of the AirView Spectrum Analyzer application (v1.0.11) has been released for all supported platforms; Windows, Mac O/S X, and Linux. It's available from the AirView downloads page (http://www.ubnt.com/airview/downloads.php).

This minor bug-fix release does contain a preview release of the Waterfall chart, but please note that this chart in its current state is to be considered experimental. Its data is only accurate to about 1/2 hour to 45 min of data points. This limitation will be addressed very soon with a subsequent full release of v1.1, but I didn't feel like making everyone wait any longer for all the other enhancements that have been made.

It also contains most of the new visual enhancements associated with v1.1 such as:
Enhanced chart legends for real-time and waveform views.
A much better algorithm for timing out of waveform data.
A much enhanced graduation of color scales for the waveform data.
Ability to pick which chart panels show up in the UI (from View menu).
Ability to pick between the original Channel Usage or Waterfall chart. (from Preferences dialog).
Ability to define your own set of channels in both the 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz spectrum. (only via a property setting in the AirView.properties file -- see this post (http://www.ubnt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15297) for instructions.)
Permenant mouse-over hot-spots for identification of defined channels (at bottom of Real-Time chart)
Return of the easy-to-use (and much better looking) Apple App Pakcage for the Mac Users.
Various other minor fixes

A preview screenshot of the new version: http://www.ubnt.com/airview/download/airview-v1.1-preview.jpg

This release has been tested and appears stable on all Windows platforms including XP Home/Pro, Vista Home/Business/Ultimate, and Windows 7; Mac OS X 10.5x (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I'm currently in the midst of fixing the udevinfo/udevadm issue for the Linux build and as soon as I'm done with that (hopefully this weekend) I'll post that file as well. My apologies to the Linux users for this slight delay.

Important note for Mac users: Please double-check your Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences to make sure Java SE 6 64-bit appears at the top of both applications and applet lists.

Fixes to the waterfall chart limitation are continuing and as soon as they're resolved I'll post the official v1.1 build; but like I said I didn't want to delay this much needed maintenance release for a full resolution to that issue.

Please give this release a try and let us know what you think.

For all Mac O/S X users of AirView USB product...

If you have previously installed the RXTX drivers on your Mac please refer to this post if you're having any issues with AirView application locating the USB device.

http://www.ubnt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23792

The AirView application uses the RXTX drivers to locate the device. If you have previously installed an older version of those drivers deleting the out-of-date RXTX extension from /Library/Java/Extensions will solve the issue.
