firstly am i allowed to discuss P2P problems or is P2P regarded as illegal and a no go on here guys ? if so i'm sorry.

anyway, i'm having problems that my all my P2P programs are telling me that my ports are closed. I've tried using random ports but this still doesn't solve the problem. the thing is it only happens when using vista, when i boot to xp the programs/running/ports are fine. strange.

any help appreciated.

P2P isn't illegal, unless some third world country has a "progressive" internet policy. I recall an article where the BBC is encouraging its use for its own programs.

What *IS* illegal is sharing copyrighted materiel.

Your ports are closed...Hmmm. OK, since XP works, that means its not an IT infrastructure problem, i.e your ISP isn't blocking the ports. Sounds like its a Vista problem.

Depending on the software it may be referring to your inbound ports for connecting to DHT among other things. Set a NAT mapping in your router to your computer based on the port you are using. Also open up the port in your Vista firewall.

Use this site to check if your port is open all the way where 6881 in the address == the port you are trying to open. http://www.utorrent.com/testport?port=6881
