A client lost the ethernet port on a NS5 yesterday due to lighting strike.
It is NOT a design flaw because UBNT equipment is very reliable.
I have Mikrotik, Bullet5 and Nanostation5 on my towers without problem. Sometimes the lighting is so strong that I have to reset power, but no equipment burning yet.
Here in Brazil the power and telephone company do not invest to properly ground their grid. Home and business owners neglect grounding too.
Most of the times the buildings are not designed to pass UTP cables and people run it toguether with telephone or electrical wires. When lightning strikes the power or telephone grid will carry the energy to first equipment it can find.
Check if your wiring have any similarities with the above scenario. If that is the case improve grounding on your station to avoid buying new radios.
Some modern circuit braker sense improper energy flow and cut off power from the grid. The only downside is having to reset the braker during storms.
Good luck,
