Hi,
I have just stumbled upon this contest on slashdot, however after reading official challange website and discussion on forum I'm still not sure whether this contest is aimed at frontend/ui designers or backend programmers. I can create clean and intuitive interface with xhtml/css/svg/js and plug it into template engine, but coding my own backend or extending already existing ones is completely out of my scope. From my short research it looks like LuCI is the most feature-complete backend, but does it have enough features to make a web interface that would meet technical requirements specified on the challange website?

Yes it does, at least from what I understand of the requirements document.

Was on irc, and spoke to a kindly fellow by the name of xM*cough*f, according to this chap there are several.

http://x-wrt.org/

http://luci.freifunk-halle.net/

Of course, there likely are several more. But have a look at those.

Thanks sirukin for your response. To be specific, for which question was your answer: "Does this challange require backend coding?" or "does (LuCI) have enough features to make a web interface that would meet technical requirements?" :)

Well, yes on first, no on second.

Strictly, read the requirements document and compare it to an OpenWRT changelog. Implementation of several (all?) features *will* require a working knowledge of networking.

I also believe they would like you to write the backend software open source and usable for parties like OpenWRT, however I also believe they intend the web-front-end to be licensed and copyright by Ubiquiti Networks. I'm not sure, haven't had a reply in email from them just yet on that.

This thread here: http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8884 is an attempt to make an itemized list of the difficult OpenWrt areas. Please help contribute.
