Hey Guys,
We have found a small issue that affects a very LIMITED number of RouterStation devices that can cause the 3rd Ethernet LAN perfromance to be less then anticipated.
This issue has been CORRECTED for all future shipments.
If you feel you are affected by this issue please contact me directly mike@ubnt.com and I will issue an RMA and replace the unit for you.
Thank you,
Mike

Hi,
you should publish the serial number range of the board affected by this problem.
What do you mean when you say:
Hey Guys,

the LAN interface is simply slower or it can be totaly mute? Because there are a lot of (software/hardware?) problems about the LAN switch as reported by me in the http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8150 (points 1 and 2).
Please be more clear with us developers!
Andrea

PerseoInf,
I responded to your other thread. Note that I haven't reproduced the crash you reported in that thread yet, so I don't know if it is related to the hardware issue. I have hardware to test under both conditions and will let you know.
For throughput, there is an issue which is software related (new open source driver, still needs optimization). I *suspect* everything in your thread to be unrelated to the hardware issue Mike listed above, but I will know more soon.
Thanks,
Mike

When you say issue, you mean not working at all? I have one of the first routerstations out and finally a month later I was able to get it powered up since I didn't have a POE device. Right off the bat the LAN port towards the outside edge of the board does not work at all. It will light up the led real quick maybe once or twice when I plug my laptop in but other then that it's dead. The next one in and the wan port work just fine. Overall the device is running good and I even tried out dd-wrt on it and still the same issue with that LAN port.
I'm currently in Germany so getting equipment here takes forever and I really don't feel like sending this back. Is there anyway I can fix this, maybe with hardward type repair? Was it a bad solder job or something? Great item, wish you guys would look into a kernel that would boot Debian since no one seems to be understanding or maybe no really caring about in my other post.

i can ack. my RS's LAN2 port is also dead, no lan2 led, nothing. WAN port makes also trouble. only the lan2 port is working 100%. i'm in touch with my local dealer to solve the issue.

My LAN-port2 is also dead :( LED is dead, works on Port1 with the same cable.
Is this a hardware defect or does it need to be activated somewhere?

my lan0 + lan1 work, but the lan nearest the board edge is just a handy place to store an ethernet cable.
Firmly soldered and a nice socket, but useless to date.
I tried a few things, but it's still just a 3 port board with 2 working ports to me at the mo.
Maybe i'll get lucky tomorrow.

Wondering if theres anyone with Working LAN-PORT2 at all !?
With port2, i also mean the one nearest to the edge.

As for me, it works. But keep in mind, I tested it with a short cable. The difference I found is that packets loss on mentioned port was a bit higher than on others. Other ports are never losing packets on such short cable. Port in question could lose one packet per several thousands. This does not causes any serious issues for me.

I bought my 2 Routerstations when they came out, and neither of them light up when a cable is connected to LAN2 (the one furthest from the WAN port). I am assuming this is a hardware issue from this post, is there any way to manually fix it? I don't really need the 2 LAN ports, but if I could get it working myself that would be good.
Just to be clear, I have tested it with multiple cables (3' ) and the light doesn't come on.
Thanks!

After all those posts, it's pretty clear that we are facing some sort of hardware defect.
I'm a little sad that theres no clear statement by the Ubiquiti staff about this. Pretty sure they must have noticed this issue, too, by now.
So @Ubiquiti:
Can the affected units be exchanged under warranty? How to proceed?
Or a upgrade to a working RsPro (as soon as available), maybe for some extra bucks.

Hi Freezer2k,
Sorry we missed this one. Of course if you have issues with any units, please send email to support@ubnt.com and we will swap.

I am still experiencing problems with LAN PORT 3, even with the latest Redboot loaded. It appears that if I use an older style ethernet connection with PORT 3, the light will not light and the port will not activate.
PORT 2 does not exhibit the same problem.
I have an old Dell laptop (L400). When I connect it to PORT 2, the LED lights and all works fine. If I connect it to PORT 3 nothing happens. The computer show that the Ethernet cable is unplugged. If I connect a newer device (Sony VAIO laptop (PCG-4K1L) to PORT 3 it works fine.
Is it an MDX capable port problem? Could it be a half duplex port? Does anyone have more information for me?
kshogan - could you enlighten me as to what the correct 'eth module' is to make sure I'm not missing something else.

What are the exact symptoms of this issue? Is it performance, functionality, or both? Does it only apply to lan0/1, or can it apply to wan also? I am having a problem with a RS board where, if I try to use iperf UDP to linerate blast traffic to another RS board (which was in a different production batch from the first), I am not able to get it to send more than 23Mbps, whereas the newer board will send at 89-95Mbps (expected throughput minus headers).
A is old RouterStation, B is new (from RMA. 60 second test, UDP, -b 100M)
Direction UDP Send Rate UDP Receive Rate
A to B 23.3 Mbits/sec 23.3 Mbits/sec
B to A 89.0 Mbits/sec DNF (crashes and reboots!)
Am I dealing with the issue reported in the original post of this thread, or is this another issue? Can I fix it with a software upgrade, or is it the board itself?

Although this thread is a bit old it did help me cure, or better said, work around a problem.
A network tied to the second RS' lan port was very slow. As it involves various wireless links these were suspect first but only after, in OpenWrt, using scp sending //bin/busybox, a 500kB file, back and forth over every segment in the network it turned out to be the lan <> lan connection between a new AirGrid M5 unit and a 1/2 year old RouterStation board.
Sympton: file transfer into the RouterStation over the second lan very fast,
transfer from the RouterStation's secondary LAN into the AirGrid ultra slow (~ 20 kBps).
Plugging the AirGrid's LAN into the primary LAN of the RouteStation made the connection fast both ways ....
Tricky is that this second LAN connector is not entirely dead but seems to be throttling traffic severely from in to out.

The thread is old, but the problem has not yet been solved, either been diagnosed the cause of the problem.... :( ! My routerstation will be the best (value/price) if we will fix this problem!

the three RS boards where I observed this 2nd LAN port problem have a sticker 'test date 12/06/09' and have a mac address in the 00:15:6D:C1:1F:xx range.
I ordered some more later, 'test date 14/12/09' and mac 00:15:6d:c3:80:xx, and on those I do not observe this problem.

Are you running kamikaze ? If so, use backfire instead, kamikaze is the unstable branch. I already post a link this week to a backfire image for rs & rspro. You could find it buy searching the forum or view my post from my profile' statistics.

Someone please edit first post and topic title because the problem is not just performance, rather - port not working as well.
