Hello people,

I have a question regarding some technical aspects in choosing SSID name. What are the benefits in choosing the same SSID for an array of APs obviously the APs are on different channels? Let we say that the array is covering 360 degrees and all the APs use the same SSID. Are there any drawbacks? Are there any technical issues to be aware of? We had some difficulties where an AP (NS2) had by mistake the same name as another one, the two were directed in opposite directions. A nearby subscriber was connected to the opposite AP it should be. The signals levels and the noise (because of proximity to the tower) were practically identical for both APs but we noted a drop of performance for that AP where other clients used it. The issue was resolved when we discovered where the CPE was connected. What happens if there are two (or more) APs with the same SSID and approx the same signal quality and strength? It means that the CPE will be hopping APs and choosing currently the best one? Any real world experiences?

Regards,
Mitja
