When I plug in to LAN2, I don't get a link and can't ping to it. How to activate the second LAN port?

Hello,

You must bring the port up in the RouterStation setup, it is not active by default.

Thanks,

Mike

According to http://wiki.ubnt.com/wiki/index.php/RouterStation_OpenWRT_SW_Setup_Guide:

"The OpenWRT Linux build will respond on ALL ports by default, and bridges them by default."

Perhaps that should be clarified.

I am not seeing that anywhere, can you explain what you mean by: bring the port up in the RouterStation setup, it is not active by default. I'm not seeing any web interface at 192.168.1.20 (just a 404). This is the stock firmware that arrived on the device. I am fairly experienced with OpenWrt, but can you tell me exactly what you mean, so we can get on the same page? WAN and LAN1 are active, but not LAN2 (port 3 on the board). Thanks.

you have to connect by SSH to your RS and go to the directory /etc/config/network and in the section "config interface lan" add in the name called "config ifname" just followed with an space the other adapter (should be eth0 and eth1). dont forge to get it up by "ifconfig eth0 up" or whatever

eth0 and eth1 are both up, are both part of the bridge, br-lan and WAN and LAN1 both work (i.e., i can ping to br-lan's 192.168.1.20 on either one). The LAN2 port does not work.

Russell,

Do you get a link LED on your switch when you connect the LAN2 port to the switch?

If Yes, is traffic being bridged between LAN ports? What about to/from CPU to that port?

You probably meant that nothing worked on that port, but I want to make sure I understand. Even without switch configuration the LAN ports will link and bridge between them on power-up, so it's a good test.

I'm trying to figure out if you have a bad board or a configuration problem.

Thanks,

Mike

When I connect a cross-over'd cable between LAN2 and my non-auto-mdx'ing switch, i get periodic brief link light blinks on the switch (connecting to LAN1, I get a solid link light at the switch). The LAN2 led on the rs board does nothing.
