yes please... could you explain some tips we should follow that differ in the standard way to compile kamikaze... Id like to compile the last version of openwrt without go in redboot console and without be neccesary to edit the fconfig parameter... is that possible with your fix? thank you very much....

lqbweb,

Most of the patches are already in Kamikaze mainline. If you rebuild with the latest sources, you will just need to remove parts of the patches and refresh the rest. Just make sure the end result is the same (for the RouterStation support code).

You can use the mtd devices to flash upgrade but I haven't done this on OpenWRT before myself. I always bring up the board in update mode with the switch and then send the new images with TFTP.

I will try to find an example of flashing from the command line to update the kernel and rootfs partitions.

I'll add that to the document soon.

Ok, nice... thank you man...

Could you post your .config, I just want to be sure my kernel is the minimum one. Thanks

Download http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/RS/openwrt-routerstation.tgz and our config file is under conf/rs. The makefile copies this into openwrt directory as .config after checkout from svn.

pfff openwrt won me...

Ive tried to compile the RC2 version. Id rather to have the RC2 version than your images because the repositories are syncronished , and I could got the buildroot for my kernel, also there are some packages missed for the kernel 2.6.26.8 (yours) in the official repositories.

I upload the images which i compiled... I cant figure out why its not working, it compile perfectly but i dont have the cable to go on redboot console yet. I've add the arch to the kernel and pached it manually.

If anyone wants to try, there it goes:

You need to use the serial cable and change the boot script. You must specify the board ID they require to detect it as RouterStation. Those guys changed it from our generic board ID to something shorter but they did it after we released our image to manufacturing.

There are several references to this in the forum from guys who have built from trunk (Kamikaze RC2).

You need to add to the kernel command line:

board=UBNT-RS

This thread answers yours questions I think: http://ubnt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7745&highlight=init+board+routerstation

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, were you able to use mtd? I am getting an error message
Can't open device for writing!
Could not open mtd device: linux

Thanks for any info.

I used the second link above and got files from svn. When I make menuconfig, I see Target system is selected as "Atheros AR71XX [2.6]" and Target Profile [Default].

Is this expected? I see that Target Profile Should Have Been "Router Station" but that Choice is not available in the drop down list. Please let me know if I must do anything else.

Thank you in advance. :?

Can I tftp the openwrt-ar71xx-ubnt-rs-squashfs.bin file directly or is there anything else to do before sending it to the board via tftp? I built it using latest source. I am asking because there is a posting

http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9631
"
../build_dir/host/firmware-utils/bin/mkfwimage -k openwrt-ar71xx-vmlinux.lzma -r openwrt-ar71xx-root.squashfs -v "RSx.ar7100.OpenWrt" -B "RS"

from the bin directory after the compile ends (without errors).

I used this image http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/RS/RSx.ar7100.OpenWRT.bin
and first time I could set back factory status.
But I changed /etc/config/network ,I woluld like to change 'atho' .(I think that was the problem)
I would like to set back factory settings , I'm using same image but it doesnt work! I can' t ping 192.168.1.20 after put the image.
What do you think, what's the problem?

thanks

I have downloaded the routerstation.tgz file from above link.

The make file has OWRT_REV:="13677". Is there a newer version of the .tgz file? This is a very old version of OpenWrt. Can you please clarify? :icon_eek:

I tried to build the image using the tgz on the first page of this thread, but it doesn't seem to build. I'm getting a root.squashfs is too big error in the make, and mkfwimage fails with a generic error that googling reveled is related to it thinking the image is too large for the available flash.

The root fs image is under 4MB and the kernel is 764K. Since my routerstation has 16MB flash, why does the make process think it cannot create the image because it's tool large?

The patches linked in the first post, are those now in the Kamikaze SVN trunk? Or do you still need to apply them once checked out.
