View Full Version : client node gets 98% of packets, AP getting 88% from client

I have a connection that's buggy. The client node is using a ~20dB directional antenna, and the AP has an omni, and both seem to have decent signal strengths.

Looking into why it's buggy, I measured success rates of pings from the source to a system known to be reliable, but discarded the return results. Receiving packets was relatively fine at 98% successful, but sending packets was only 88% successful. The product of those two rates was close to the 13% failure rate I was seeing on pings.

Since the AP seems to be fine, what can I do on the client side? This was with a low RTS threshold, and the packet sizes were too small for fragmentation to help. Should I force a lower rate? A higher rate? Change the reply value with iwconfig?

Dropping the rate to 1Mb/s increased my transmit success rate for small packets to 99.1%.
