View Full Version : Bullet mounted to omni antenna

I just put a bullet on an omni antenna. I had a problem mounting the combination to the top of a pole as the bullet is larger around than the antenna and the antenna is designed to mounted flush to the pole with two U bolts.
I made up a spacer to hold the omni out from the pole so as not to crush the bullet. It is not pritty, but I think it is ok.

Has anyone came up with a better way to mount a bullet/omni to a pole.

Hey Gary,

Two hose clamps work wonders, or two Right angle adapters so that the bullet sits away from the pole a little bit.

Thanks,

Mike

Use a wider antenna? Bad attempt at humor.

You may have to put a short jumper or an elbow in there. Another option would be a PVC pipe around the base of the antenna to make it thicker.

I noticed that. What I ended up doing was taking a shot length of grey PVC and cutting it in half lengthwise as a spacer. That way I still had a metallic connection to the mast for grounding the antenna. That was easier than making up a short jumper. Most inexpensive right angle adapters have too much loss.

You could always make yourself (or buy) a small pigtail, some n connectors and a short piece of coax cable (like LMR195), that would drop the bullet down a couple of inches. You’ll lose a db or so.

The pigtails & right angle connectors all defeat the "coolness" of the bullet.
A simple spacer seems to be the solution. I used a couple pieces of 1/4 inch thick metal bars 2 inches long to hold the antenna away from the pole. It was a bit tricky holding it inplace to install, but afterwards seems ok.
Some kind of spacer with concave face on both sides about 1/2 inch to 1 inch thick would be great as it would hold to the pole and the omni.
Still looking for an easy way to make that.

Hey Gary,

Can you post up pics of how you have the unit mounted?

Thanks

Mike

sure,
my good camera is back to Nikon for repair, but I think that my point and shoot will be ok.
I will not be able to do this until the weekend as I am at Loral until dark every day this week.

Ya know...a Loco stuffed inside a Nanostation case with a web cam would be a cool idea!
