External antenna

Hi guys!
Can anyone tells me, in advanced tab of nanostation 2 software, you can choose either horizontal, vertical, adaptive and external antenna. If you choose external antenna, does this means that both external and internal integrated antenna is used or just external?

Only the external antenna will be active with this selection.

When you select external antenna, all of the internal antennas are disconnected.

Can you also tell me, if you use nano2 for hot spot, is adaptive mode better than to select either horizontal or vertical?

Adaptive mode is pretty much designed for the client radio to allow it to find the best path from the access point. You don't want to set you APs with adaptive.
