I've tested this with Nanostation 5, Nanostation Loco 5, and Bullet 5 radios, so I'll simply use UBNT to represent the radios in my testing below. The Nanostation Loco 2 has its own set of problems I'm still working on.
Test setup....
Topology:
DSL modem ->Router /hub -> UBNT AP static ~> UBNT Sta static -> (*) -> UBNT AP static ~> UBNT Sta static -> laptop static, where (*) is described below.
IP Addresses
192.168.1.0 > 192.168.2.1 > 2.20 > 2.24 > 2.25 > 2.23 > 2.99
(*) as a hub showed not problems, not did a straight thru or cross-over cable. Wasn't able to duplicate the the excessive traffic back and forth between the two units directly connected that I had a few weeks ago. No advantage seen when using a switch.
I cannot duplicate the problem I had three years ago when connecting Inscape Data radios back to back without a switch.
I did have a weird problem over the weekend, but can't duplicate it anymore. I could plug a laptop into the hub and ping everything downwind, but when I had the laptop plugged into the end of the chain...I could only ping up to the Station at 2.24; I could not ping 2.20 nor the router. Maybe I unchecked IP Aliasing at some point and didn't remember, if indeed that made a difference.
So...to answer all the questions from several different threads - Yes, you can connect UBNT radios back to back with static IP address without any problems.
Next, I'll start working with the radios set up as routers.
