View Full Version : Minimum Voltage for Bullet POE?

It say's EVERYWHERE, even on the Bullet itself "24Volts Max". I can't find the minimum though anywhere. I'm currently using a Bullet on a 12V POE and its working fine. Just wondering "how low can you go"?

Hello,

Bulelts can run a minimum of 5V

Thanks,

Mike

Just wondering if the voltage it receives makes a difference, or does everything go thou a voltage regulator.

There is an on-board switch-mode regulator power supply that regulates the board's voltage

Correct and on Bullets it accepts 5V to 24V.

Thanks,

I have recently purchesd 2 bullet5 units with antannas atached and 12vdc each unit comes on for a few minuts they get very hot to tuch then shut down. some sence of burnt smell. 12vdc drop to 10vdc when powerup. I donot want to burnup units. Thanks Butch

No.

Bulelts can operate a minimum 5V and to 36V
And you came to that declarative assessment how?

Just because you might have accidentally connected it to 36 volts and it didn't burn out, does not mean the manufacture's specifications of the on board switching power supply chip can be exceeded and still reliably operate.

Please do not give out erroneous and damaging information.

I used 24V and smoked one. WHY? It say's 24Volts MAX. Never doing that again. Luckly I ordered 2 and have the other running at 12V.

hi,

use 24V if you have a long run of cat5, not a few feet!

likewise 5V would have to be damn close to the unit, remember as the voltage goes down the current goes UP so cable resistance becomes a lot more significant.

good old I2R losses ;p

Hello,

This is incorrect. The protection diode at the unit is rated to 24V, anything higher and its a matter of time before you brick the unit.

Thank you,

Mike

Hello,

Please be aware that cheap 24V power supplies will often be way over the 24V supplied to the unit. These can reach to 29V. When using 24V on short cable runs, you must use a high quality 24Vpoe adpater. For longer cable runs that have voltage drop this will not be an issue.

Thanks,

Mike

hi,

funny to see a n00b to the forum tell Mike of Ubiquiti he is wrong about 24V, heh almost troll like
