Mesh Networking for Multi-Unit buildings

I would like to hear some success stories from people that have used Ubiquiti Equipment to create a mesh network connecting to 1 or 2 Internet Gateways for Apartment complexes, hotels, etc.

I'm trying to figure out the easiest and most reliable way to use solely the Ubiquiti equipment to create a mesh network.

I was thinking of loading DD-WRT on all NanoStations used, then use WirelessOrbit.com for their billing and management services, but the question is how do I get the devices to properly mesh?
