understanding port forward and firewall

i would like to setup some portforwarding on a NS2 with firmware 3.2.3-rc. i have the WAN comming in on the LAN port and clients attached to the WLAN side. it is in router mode. the main question i am wondering is if the portforward option under teh networking tab forwards LAN ports to WLAN address, or vice versa.


i also have many other questions as i dont understand exact how these options are implemented.

what if i wanted to forward ports on WLAN to LAN address?
what does checking the enable firefwall option do?
should i use the firewall iptables instead?
is port forwarding interfacing the same iptables as the firewall settings?
is there documentation on this, i didnt see any details in the wiki manual?
