I want to cover a distance of 10km. At this moment I have a line of sight between the two points but soon some more houses will be build so I want to count all the situations that I might not have this line of sight.

I slightly confuse what PowerStation to use. I know that most wireless systems at the moment are using 2.4Ghz so having that in mind 5Ghz should be better.

PS5 supports only 802.11a networks and ps2 can support up to 802.11g networks which I believe it's better.

Can someone suggest which one to buy?

PS2 or PS5 will cover me better?

Thanking you in advance,

Neo

"PS5 supports only 802.11a networks and ps2 can support up to 802.11g networks which I believe it's better. "

The increasing progression of the suffix lineage does not necessarily mean anything is better. "a' may be better than "b", "g" is better than "b", and "n" is better than "g".

So much for having alphabet soup for lunch, 'eh?

5.8 Gig 802.11a predates 2.4 Gig 802.11b and 802.11g was merely an extension of "b" that offered faster speeds.

Given similar situations, there's no significant difference 802.11a ..BUT you rarely have similar situations.

802.11a (with the Atheros chipset) can do 108 Mbs in turbo mode, where turbo really can't be successfully implemented in the 2.4 Gig band.

802.11a is more robust in an 802.11b/g RF polluted area.

802.11a has a smaller antenna aperture which add 7 dB loss to the total path loss, but that's not a problem as with the same physical size of an 802.11b/g antenna, you'll get 6 dB more gain.

802.11a has a smaller Fresnel zone clearance requirement, but is extremely intolerant of foliage in the path compared to 802.11b/g.

802.11a has 6 non-over lapping 20 MHz channels, but 802.11b/g has only 3.

If you anticipate future housing development, you should consider higher antenna as a house can just as effectively block 802.11b/g as 802.11a.

Do a site survey. Buy or borrow a single omni antenna / radio, an RB 411 with a r52 card will work quite well, and run a survey for a few days. Before you spend any money you need to know who is using what in your area.
Second, since this is a point to point link, you might want to consider bullets with grid antennas or RBs running dual nstream. Ease of setup and low cost, bullets with grids. High performance and flexibility, RBs

Based on the questions he asked, doing site surveys and correctly interpretation the results may be tad beyond his skill set at the moment.

We all had to start learning at the beginning at one point in time.

First of all I would like to wish you Happy New year.

Thanks for all your help. I have made a small research and most of the people not to say all in my country are using 2.4Ghz wireless systems.

I have order two PS5.

Thanks again
