I have 2 NS2 units I am trying to use in conjunction with my Apple Airport Extreme and an Airport Express. I am trying to set up a small WISP for our rural neighborhood and can not get things to work as advertised. I have the AirportExtreme Base station (AB) and one of the NS2 (NS2-1) connected on the LAN side to a GB switch which connects all of my computers up in my office. The AB is serving as the main router with the Internet and also serves DHCP and NAT using the 10.0.1.0/24 network. Everything on the LAN side of the AB works fine.
AirportBase = 10.0.1.1 is on channel 11 using SSID = pmsnet1
NS2-1 = 10.0.1.101 and is setup as a AP WDS bridge on channel 1 using SSID=pmsnet2
In the house (where I am testing) I have an Airport Express setup as a WDS remote on channel 11 using SSID = pmsnet1. The Airport Express side works with no problems.
Another NS2 (NS2-2) is setup as Station WDS bridge using 10.0.1.102 on channel 1 and SSID=pmsnet2.
If I plug in an Ethernet cable to the LAN of NS2-2 to my MacBook I get an IP as expected and can connect to Internet. But if I unplug LAN and try to connect to pmsnet2 using the MacBook on wireless it appears that I am actually connecting to NS2-1 up in the office instead of to NS2-2 which is a couple of feet away because the signal strength indicator drops significantly.
If I connect to pmsnet1 (via the Airport Express WDS) signal goes up to full. What am I doing wrong to connect to NS2-2 via the WLAN side?
