Just curious, I'm just starting out slowly as a WISP, just have a few clients most of which are friends because they can't get DSL or cable out where they live. Just curious as to what type of encryption/security most of you run?

At the moment I am just running WPA2 PSK with AES CCM Chipers. I think for the most part this is pretty secure...but just curious on what others are using and what your opinions are.

Thanks,
DV

Interesting stuff. I would think that would be fine. Maybe just turn on Client Isolation so they can't see each other if that matters.

I am thinking of setting up something similar. I have a few friends in the next town that only have dial up. I figure let them be the guinea pigs and then grow from there. How is your network set up?

Mikrotik x86 server (DNS, DHCP, Firewall) >

RB 153(WPA2, relays DHCP to x86 server) > 19 DB Panel > 5Mile Link > 19DB Pane1> RB153 (two wifi NICS, WPA2, relays DHCP to x86 server) > 12 DB Pac Omni (broadcasts to clients)

Client Side:
RB411 w/ 14db antenna

The Link Signal Strength of the 5 Mile Link is average -65dbm
The Clients are about -68dbm (approx. 3 mile links)

For future links i'm gonna be looking at new ubnt hardware as I'm a big fan of the prices i'm seeing, and from what I've read the hardware is great!
