The Bullet webpage lists the Op. Temp. range as -30C — +70C. But the datasheets list it as -20C — +70C. I'm hoping for -30, but I think I know the answer!
Our NanoStation deployment appears to have survived its first -30C weather despite the specs. What experience has there been in cold weather with UBNT radios?

dare i ask what happend if it drops out of spec? not to likely here, but i have to ask!
People are reporting the units get unstable during severe cold. Its not like its going to pop the freezer plug and let the AirOS out.
Even though it might be rated at 50º C (120º F), that doesn't mean it will have long term survival. As a a rule of thumb, for every 10º C above 22º C (room 72º F), you half the device life. Of course some MilSpec (Military Specification) gear is more tolerant.

haa haa haa well i wasn't to worried about letting the airos out, that can be refilled it's the magic smoke that's moisture activated, you should see my walls and windows! the window has literally 1/2 inch of frost over it!
PS i think i like this forum
Oh really! I saw a picture of frost on window in National Geographic about twenty years ago. Always thought it was a fake picture.

in the AM I'll take a pic my wife scratched into it "It's Cold" it's all frosted over but the words aren't as thick, they let more lite in and it kinda looks like it's glowing- i was just worried that the circuit board would look like that to...
any idea on what would happen if it was filled with silicone sealer?
Never, ever...never (did I already say that?)...use silicone glue near electronics parts unless you know exactly what your are doing. I'd recommend a latex or elastomer material.

good info rite there! but in basic concept, some thing to keep air out, it was just an idea, but perhaps I'll try it, although at the moment, i have the cold weather but not the hardware. when i get around to picking one up, I'll talk to you a little more about goo to put inside and we'll give it a shot! what do you think?
We pretty much don't use silicone glue for anything. For weatherproofing holes, etc. we use http://www.dap.com/product_details.aspx?BrandID=26&SubcatID=6. This stuff is about as hard to remove as silicone glue (not very reenterable) and without the corrosive effects of curing.
But for a reenterable seal, I'd use a simple latex caulk.

Hey Folks,
What have your experiences with various Ubiquiti gear at cold temps?
I am waiting for temps to warm a bit before I go out and install my first Ubiquiti links. Not because of the gear but because I can't stand working outside in single digit temps.
We have been seeing a number of days with highs in the low teens (F) and lows down as far as -1F.
I have a Solektec link now that goes down every time the temp drops below about 17F.

Hey Mohave,
These units perform great at 0 and above (F). You will start seeing an impact on performance below -20C.
Thanks,
Mike
I'm picturing a grey outdoor rated PVC tube with a 5 watt power resister mounted inside.

Hello Mike,
We put one Bullet2 and one Bullet2HP in a chamber at +70C to verify the high operating temperature first. After 2 hrs the Bullet2HP is not working any more (does not turn ON).
Question: Does the Bullet2HP have the same temp range than the Bullet2? According with the specs sheet, yes, but....
Before to try another Bullet2HP unit at that temp I will like to know your comments.
Thanks,
Carrasco
