hi everybody

i'd like to provide internet access to my tennis club.
on the top of the picture, house with DSL access, where I plan to install nanostation loco2 on the roof. On the bottom, the tennis courts, which are now covered, with tennis instructor office, computer, club-house, bar, and so on.
The two points are 250 meters separated, and there is no obstacle between them.

Do you think classical PC with wireless chipsets will be able to use the nanostation loco 2 as wifi access point from inside the tennis courts ?

thanks for your answers or ideas !

hi,

If you made the link an AP to AP WDS bridge using loco2's or nano2's with the one at the court end at the rear of the court so it radiates across the area.

the distance is no issue at all.

It will work, but not in all area because of those trees in front. Better if you can set a WDS repeater at the tennis club.

Does not the tennis club have its own DSL line? I'd just put up an access point in the back of the club. Even a $49 Linksys WRT54G would work.

@WHT : no DSL line at the tennis club, the aim is to share another DSL line, in order to make some money savings.

@guidonet : there is no more trees at the moment, so I hope that it will work with only 1 loco2.

I think I will try with only one loco2 access point on the roof.
If signal is not strong enough, I will add another WDS access point, as kijoma suggested.
Do you think the use of a NS2 instead of a loco2 could have an impact in my configuration ?

thanks for your time & for replies !

Absolutely.... better with NS2. I´m testing 2 LOCOs and there are 10dB between NS2.

rhcp...

Use two Nanostations, better internal gain antennas.

@WHT : from your point of view, do you mean that a single NS2 won't be enough ?

It depends what your expectations are.

You can use a Loco or NS at your house and shoot it over to the tennis club to another NS or Loco.

If everything is set to WDS, then anyone near the tennis club NS of Loco will be able to connect to the tennis club's NS or Loco.

Now...the tennis club NS or Loco would have to be mounted on the far (south?) side of the tennis club such that the PC users will be in the beamwidth as it shoots back towards the house. A Loco with a wider beamwidth would be a better choice. This is what kijoma was saying.

But...if some of those PCs are on the feft (west?) side of the building, they may not get a good signal.

So...that means using a NS at the tennis club with an external omni antenna...OR use a Loco at the tennis club and hard wire it to a Linksys wireless router as the actual AP, as it might be easier to mount the Loco on the roof, compared to a pole way over on the south side.

hi,

i was saying if both ends were AP + WDS and bridged that the courts would get a signal from two directions, the one at the far end of the court would best be a loco2 and the one at the house could be an ns2 or ps2 even.

bit like having diversity :)

rhcp, only open spaces will be covered from your house. For the interior of the club you must consider another AP, the metallic ceiling will not let pass the signal from your house

will not work for your case especially for loco 2 better of with NS2 better still if you have a NS2 Or loco 2 either side and the side of Tennis side configured as an access point and placed at the extreme end facing the House so as to cover the tennis compound

Hi guys

First of all thanks for your good advices.
I would like to tell everybody that my installation works !

- 1 ns2 on the house roof ( as wds ap )
- 1 ns2 on the tennis club roof (as wds station )
- 1 wrt54g inside the tennis club for wifi clients

bridged mode works great ! both ns2 are at the lowest output power (10dBm)

see below a screenshot off the tennis club ns2

ps : _both_ ns2's power supplies get broken after 2 months of use. I hope ns2 is more reliable than it's power supply :x
