Hey Guys,
The forum is growing at a rapid pace, so the time comes for me to find out what you guys think.
Please post your suggestions on how to make the forum better for our users!
I will gather a list and look into the changes
Categories I'm looking for are: Layout, Product Categories ect. As most of our units use AirOS operating system, I was thinking of consolidating them into a single forum (NS,PS,LoCo, Bullet). Yay or nay?
Thank you for being apart of the Ubiquiti Community!
Mike
To quote George Bush at the 1988 Republican Convention..."Read my lips..." NAY.

about consolidating NS,PS,LoCo, Bullet in a single forum considering they use the same OS I would say YES...
I think the section names should not be prepended by the word "Ubiquiti" ; it makes it harder to visually browse...
The new units are coming with 8mb flash!; I'd love to see an active, --UB supported-- "developers area"...

I think it would be ok to consolidate
NS and Loco boards as they are essentially the same device
leave the rest separate for now but definately drop the Ubiquiti prefix on each board
a FAQ area on the board or wiki answering the most common problems
but not necessarily postable to just anyone to keep the answers to common questions quick and easy to find
Like to see a WISP area as our issues and needs differ from those doing home user stuff
A developer board would be great and I would love to see a for dummies area on the board or at least in the wiki for those like me who would like to learn more about how to use this but dont know where to start
Authenticate users to discourage the advertising guys who have occasionally joined up and blitz posted in every forum for ipods and other crap its too easy for them right now
keep up the ubnt presence with the fast and active replys
good job guys :)

Unless a posting is downright inappropriate of offensive, each poster should get at least one reply at minium from UBNT folks. there should be no zero in the "replies" column! If a question seems stupid, obvious or redunant, it may just be that there is just not an obvious, easily found place for the newbie to access basic info.
I too would like to see an easily found and well maintained FAQ and/or better updated Wiki where, as issues are brought up and resolved, they are indexed and easily found & referred to.
Perhaps it's just me (I'm fairly successful with Google) but I have a heck of a time searching for and finding threads I know I remember reading on this forum. That may be because the subject line often doesn't accurately reflect the thread content or the the thread wanders away from the original topic. Or sometimes the thread just doesn't lend itself to a keyword or two.
In any case, after reading this forum for almost 18 months, my biggest complaint is that the "wheel" is too often being re-invented because much of the good info contributed by both UBNT folks and users is so easily lost in the "pile".
But don't get me wrong!! I'd have been sunk without this forum! The price vs performance of these products is astounding and it appears that UBNT's biggest problems have to do with keeping up with themselves in terms of supply and software development.
Which brings me to a final point. Reading this forum makes it obvious that UBNT products have made this technology accessible and affordable to many new folks worldwide beyond professional WISP operators who are eager to supply broadband access to areas that would likely never otherwise be served. All these newbies need a better way to get up to speed on the basics of wireless networking in general as well as the setup and the function, interaction and problems associated with the maze of AirOS features. There is plenty of room for improvement in this regard.
In any case, after reading this forum for almost 18 months, my biggest complaint is that the "wheel" is too often being re-invented because much of the good info contributed by both UBNT folks and users is so easily lost in the "pile".
I'm just as guilty as anyone else with replying with some very salient tips or critical explanations to an otherwise innocuous "Need help" or Can't connect" topic.
Perhaps some more centric topics would be a goods idea that drill down on specific areas, and then with some good stickies to fast track to answers.
* Wireless Deployments - this could cover how to install, establish a working link, etc.
* Radio Mobile - granted there are some How To links on Roger's web site, but they are outdated and don't address some very often asked questions in the Yahoo Groups.
* Quick Setup - How many times do we see the same problems, questions, and answer to identical issues in two different topics, in spite of the fact there is a UBNT AirOS Quick Set Wiki.
And the forum search....OK, I won't go there.
Or... KNOWN ISSUES, err...Small issues just waiting to be solved
Which the best answer would be to upgrade to latest firmware.
Or...Nanostations do not play well with external antennas.

Hey Guys,
.... As most of our units use AirOS operating system, I was thinking of consolidating them into a single forum (NS,PS,LoCo, Bullet). Yay or nay? ...
Definite Yay from me!!! . :D As long as AirOS development is all growing the same branch, all OS firmware related issues should be in one forum. The current forums can be kept for hardware issues related to a specific box.
As far as searching, I wish we had strict Boolean search which allows separate quoted phrases as terms that can be and'ed together. I say "strict" because I hate search engines that think I will be "hurt" if I get "no matches found", so they try getting creative and randomly leave out "some" of the terms in the and'ed string.
Otherwise, just keep up the great responsiveness to the user community.
Granted, they all use AirOS...but there are specifics unique to each radio. Wading through a ton of PS topics looking for a NS solution would be tedious.

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree. Those specifics are going to be hardware differences that will tend to get mentioned in the post at the basic level where the person is describing their configuration ... "I am running a PS2 and when I try ..." So the search engine is fine to weed them out that way.
What I hate are separate threads on the EXACT same problem which develop because one person discovered the bug on a NSx and the second person on a PSx ... Then they try cross referencing each other, but are always out of sync.
No-no, great idea Mike! One forum on AirOs is the way to go !
That's what I meant...there are specific hardware differences that can be addressed in specific device topics.

On extensive topics the GO TO menu lack quick access to mid pages. A "quick access box" to type the desired page number would help.
Example bellow:
Goto page Previous 1, 2, 3 ... 6, 7, 8 ... 45, 46, 47 Next
If I wanted to reach a post that's dated around "page 20" I would have to click several times and wait the page to load.
A quick access box would also diminish wasted traffic.
Best regards,
Joe

Sounds like that's something of a sore spot. That is, however, the one thing this forum is missing. Without search, it is impossible not to waste a whole lot of time either looking for info... or for you folks who answer questions having to answer them over and over and over again.
Personally, I read 23 pages before I decided to ask a question. Each time I opened a new page, I looked for a search box. Each time I thought I found a topic that might lead me in the right direction, it turned out it was an NS5 issue rather than an NS2 issue.
5.8ghz problems are different than 2.4 ghz problems. If search can't be done, maybe separating the 5.8 stuff from the 2.4 stuff might be a time saver for those willing to read a few pages before asking a question.

1:) Search Box would be helpful, with options to search specific forum, or all forums//website.
2:) I agree with six on the fact that different mhz products have their own problems/solutions, so I don't think they should be grouped together.

Have a great day!
P.S. I don't know where to put this, but maybe have the AirOS instructions available to download, maybe in .pdf format. THAT would be VERY helpful to a lot of people in my opinion. If there is one available, I didn't see it.
Thanks

Been kinda busy, will up load the pdf version tomorrow.
Better Tutorials would be better for bigger sale records of Ubiquiti series!
Example cable modem dhcp >NS2 AP >NS2 Station>wireless router
Example cable modem dhcp >NS2 APwds >NS2 Station wds>wireless router. Several solutions works well, but what will be the best.
I know there is a tutorial http://wiki.ubnt.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_bridge_internet_connections
But what about a ptmp guide and so on  and well explained.

You can change the URL increments.
http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/search.php?search_id=1845875025&start=50 takes you to first page
http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/search.php?search_id=1845875025&start=475 takes you to 20th page

Post your tutorial request here: http://ubnt.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22
and those numbers make sense because? You can jump to a non-listed page.
Goto page 1, 2, 3 ... 20, 21, 22 Next
Changing the number can let you jump to the unlisted link of page 17, for example.

I think there should be sitcky posts that have common problems and Known issues. The search comes up with many duplicate problems and duplicate answers. It would be helpful and more efficient to have common issues in one place so people can go there first and look to see if it is a known problem.
It will also allow ubiquity to get a better sense of how widespread a problem is if everyone posts in the same thread if it the same problem.

Hi Everyone and Mod,
How about creating an Ubiquiti Currency. For every post created, depending on the technicality and usefulness, you get UC dollar (Ubiquiti Currrency). A forum money(not a real cash). Its not transferable and not convertible to a real cash.
UC$20: Post is very useful and original
UC$10: Post is relevant but not original
UC$5: Post is a good reply to a thread
UC$0: Post is short and not useful to the forum e.g. ouch, lol, ha ha ha
(-)UC$50: Post has been made or a redundant (mod to decide)
--this would make responsible posting so before you post,
you need to read the thread
(-)UC$75: Foul word post e.g. B*** S***
(-)UC$100: inflammatory post to a thread or member.
Each member will have an original of UC$500. When you used up your UC$ currency, you can't post and you need to wait for 1 month so the mod can give you again . If you have an issue to resolve and you have no UC$, all you can do is read the forum thread
What can you do with your accumulated UC$:
1. Use it in Ubiquiti to exchange for their forum products or offering.
2. Use it to buy your rank (mod, specialist etc)
Sooner or later, this forum will be clog and Forum owner needs to
ask from any good member to be a mod.
Just an idea to make this forum great if not best.
Thanks

If all of AirOS hardware is located in the same group, it would´nt be hard to find anything related to a specific hardware? Or all of them work in the same way?. I think I would be more practical for searching (before posting) if they are all separated, but i´m a newbie, and maybe i´m out of focus.
thanks.
I put my thumb up for that was mentioned about no post with zero reply, at least you Gurus may respond.
Thanks again.

iv been to many forum . and with all respect , this one was the worst one. i never could get an straight answer from skilled members, nor me nor other newbies . all they have to say is to go search wiki or something like that or they redirect us to another page or giving 50 50 answers, , if we knew how to find something we are looking for then why would we bother and come in here and ask , and some of them get you even more confused than youv been . "finger pointing @ Wht lol .
soo yeh , thats what i think of this forum , and my idea i think its obvious
thanks

My idea is...
Let tell you one thing. Actually the spanish is the 2nd language in the world (by native speakers), with more than 450 million people speaking.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers
Is the 2nd language in the world that people learn.
Is the 3rd language in the world in international use.
Ubiquiti, don't you think that could be very interesting or useful to have a remote or section of the forum in Spanish?
I think YES we could. :-D
Ubiquiti, think international.
Thanks for reading and sorry for the mistakes.
some of them get you even more confused than youv been . "finger pointing @ Wht lol .
Very true....and its usually because someone tries to reconcile two unrelated concepts and it takes a bit, OK...a LOT to explain it.
OTOH, it takes more than three sentences to explain Schrodinger's cat to the unwashed masses or why Fermat's last theorem was his last.

If there is a spanish WIKI, we need a spanish FORUM.
Remember, spanish, 2nd language in the world by native speakers.
Translation in spanish:
Si hay un WIKI en español, necesitamos un FORUM en español.
Recordad, el español es el segundo idioma del mundo como lenguaje nativo.

What I hate is when I check new posts, if their more then 1 page and want to read some latter, i have to go trouth every page right now to open every post I want to read or else, if a page was not open and I'm away long enough to be log out, every pages in new posts wil be gone like if I readed them all. If the pages where not open then the posts in them should still be in new posts.
Hi, If can describe the characteristic of the new products ,and compare with the old products that will be better !Thanks .

a short cut key that to go to the next page so I don't have to use my mouse :)
and a Mobile Forum for iPhone and Droid devices
oh...Bring my Post count Back
and set a contest for who ever posts the most helpful posts wins a free trip
For thread page number links I think it makes the most sense to just list them all until the width of the text box fills the horizontal space. even then it could wrap if need be (although I don't imagine threads that long here.
Being able to open a thread in it's entirety also help when scanning for history/information.
Other than that just do some monthly cleanup, namely unstickying old stickies.
