Seein that you are shipping this board with Open-WRT, I'm guessing that I'm going to have the same pains that I'm having with my gateworks board trying to pursuade an AP to connect to a Powerstation using channel shifting...
Is UBNT gonna provide any development support for this board, or is that all going to be offloaded to the Open-WRT crowd? I'd really like to see an AP that can actually talk to AirOS radios when they are using UBNT specific variations (channel width, shifting)...
Those features are something I need for my specific implementation and I've been hacking away for quite a while... Right now the project is on hold until I can figure something new out.
hi,
then u should try ddwrt for your avila.
pm me when u have questions
im sure will will have support for the routerstation, too

yah, hate to break your heart, but I have no intention of supporting ANY GPL-based paid for software
Sorry, but I'll stick to hacking my way thru it on my own
unless dd-wrt goes completely FOSS and stops selling software, I have no questions for you
...
If you like I could disclose exactly how to duplicate the functionality of your "Superchannel Extension" totally free of charge... I've got that working on my powerstations and my gateworks board... I even have it working with ath5k
but it works...and this out of the box.

instead of openwrt

As I know dd-wrt is free. At least the version that I'm using is free.

Yep, you gotta pay for it if you wanna use it on anything other than some old home router...
Considering how its pretty much based on Open-WRT... I fail to see what they actually did that is worth spending money on.
Wait... didn't they copy the linksys UI then obfuscate it so people couldn't rebrand it?

If that's so easy then perhaps you can do all of us a favour and write a sofware like DD-WRT and release it to all of us for free?
Ohh... you don't know how to? You're just talking and "hacking your way thru it on your own" ?
That's what I thought.

I would rather support DD-WRT than another company that is violating the GPL regularly and rip off the good work of some good-hearted guys.. (yeah, you know who I mean, think about B.A.T.M.A.N. for example..)
Also, considering the fact that (at least some of) the guys who get money out of dd-wrt are actually those who also put a lot of effort into OpenWRT, I think they should at least get some respect you guys here..
FYI
http://xwrt.blogspot.com/
But I think UBNT forum is not the place to discuss these DD-WRT issues.
Thank you.

Does anyone know if it is going to be possible to run DD-WRT on the rotuerstation? I have a pretty extensive WiFi network already using DD-WRT and would like to be able to expand it using the router board with some 900mhz backbones then disperse on 2.4

from day one of shipping routerstation to customers dd-wrt will be able to run on it.
afaik ddwrt already supports 900mhz ubnt radios

I believe that the primary issue with DD-WRT is the author profiting off the backs of volunteer developers without any incentive for continued development by the unpaid men and women that helped make it possible in the first place.
What 'should' be done as for dd-wrt is a commercial support program could be offered, allowing for support to be purchased by businesses and entities requiring on call support at a moments notice.
Profiting per device for the sake of only developing features for paying users only makes sense if he builds the devices he's puting it on. Otherwise, he's just taking advantage of the community that made dd-wrt possible in the first place.
AirOS runs on RouterStation ?

Hey Mike,
As I know RS ships with Openwrt loaded. At least, all of the Ubnt forum members or Ubnt users know how to play with AirOs but I dont think that they can play with Openwrt.
If you are shipping the RS to the resellers, you sould give small explanation, wiki, manuel, etc to your buyers about how to play with Openwrt.Otherwise there will be huge disapponting for people who buys RS...This will effect for your further RS sellings also.
This is my point of view....
I agree....offering a whole new OS other than AirOS is opening a whole new can of worms for support. But that now that RouterStation has Openwrt, UBNT is just going to have to deal with it.
Edited: And deferring all Openwrt questions to the Openwrt website isn't going to go over to well. UNBT has effectively "taken ownership" of Openwrt support on its RouterStation and needs to offer all support necessary.

Mike,
Since you're still learning OpenWRT and there is obviously a few individuals on here who have some experience with it, do you think it would be alright for us to start editing up a wiki section on this? Already little tricks are turning up on these forums that it might be nice to pull them all to one place. For now I've been documenting everything on my own personal wiki but would be glad to dump it here if we're allowed.
