Hi all,

I have Nanostation5 with FW ver 3.2. My problem is CAT5 cable from POE LAN to 8 port unmanaged switch doesnot work. When ever I try with short cable it works. Is that due to 100MB full duplex mode? While connecting directly to computer with the same long cable and setting computer NIC to 10MB full duplex it works. Is there any options to set duplex mode in AIROs setting page?

Make sure that your long cable is capable for 100Mbps. Probably it is bad wired. Take a look at cable connectors and check with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_over_twisted_pair

It's around 10m long and is working fine while tested with Canopy modules. May be problem with Autonegotiation from POE LAN to unmanaged switch.

Hey Guys,

Please post the firmware version numbers you are using.

Thanks,

Mike

I have had exactly that problem but always as a result of not having the wireing exactly as defined in the T568B picture in the link above!

Hello Priigoso,

Are you using standard ethernet or a crossover cable?

Thanks,

Mike

Cable quality is the issue here. the nanos are very selective when it comes to the type of cable. some calbles will not support 100 or autonegotiation for long lengths. but when put on 10 they will work. This poor quality cable will support the nanos at short lengths as you are saying 10 meters. when it goes anything above 30 meters you start having those issues

Hey Guys,

I am trying to replicate this. If it is only happened on one unit out of a couple and you can send one to me, please do so. Email me at mike@ubnt.com and ill look into it.

Thanks,

Mike

I would suggest change of cable. I realised this when i used some cheap cables they would not go beyond a certain length but would work for short lengths. So i had to use either seimons or teldor cables and worked well. I can bet on this. The cheap cables i guess have a lot of ressistance within them.

the low quality cables will not support 100 mbps so one has to force to 10 Mbps

Any way to force the nano's to 10meg half duplex?

which cable are you using? Make. POE carries power to the outdoor unit. You will find that the cable could be offering ressistance to power thus can not pass power over a long length. Reason that canopy works is because it pushes higher voltage of 24V which can do the length. You will find that the cable can support 10 MBps but not 100 Mbps because to support 100 Mbps more power is required which the cable cannot support. What is the cost of your cable? which make is it.? country of origin? then i will make a conclusion on reason for not supporting 100 MBps. And maybe it supports canopy as you can reduce speed to 10 Mbps

hi,
I have a the same problem,
when I use a 5CAT UTP cable (from 305m box - wire) it's not work,
simply : power go to NS5, but not a link,
when I use a PathCord 5cat cable (max 50m, what I use),
all is good, even I make a RJ45 swith, it's ok,
problem is in cable quality,
use a line(cord) cable !
Sorry for my en.

We see gooofy radio-router lockups no matter how long our ethernet cable run is.

Having the ability to lock the port is just a useful feature.

I will mention to the installer to bump the power supply if we get another one with lockups.
