I have the pleasure to report that my service is growing faster than I expected and I need an automated system for billing, selfcare, tech tickets, inventory, etc.
Basically it needs these core features:
1.) Authentication
2.) Billing
3.) Self Care
4.) Inventory
It would be nice if it could integrate into my existing system. I have one of those systems that has a number of manufacturers. However, if the system could authenticate the user, track them for the purpose of billing, equipment installed that would be swell. It would also be nice if the software could direct the call center tech to the web interface of the radio and any AP's it might connect to.
Basically if the customer calls in, it should list all his/her billing info, billing status, which AP they are on, radios in their possession, and a chance to connect directly to their radio and the AP they are on.
Is there such a thing, how much and where do I find it?

powercode or freeside
Does anyone personally use these products? Powercode doesn't seem to have an active website.
Freeside looks pretty good.

Hmm thats strange the powercode website does seem to be down
I'm sure its something temporary I was at their site less than a week ago and it was fine then ???
I have powercode but I only use it to maintain my customer database
not for bandwidth or authentication purposes
its pretty good not exactly cheap but they also have a rather new hosted server option that seems more reasonable no idea how well that works
what I do know is that the powernoc BMU (bandwidth Management Unit) is now integrated
So its no longer two separate units they have partnered with imagestream for this http://www.imagestream.com/9-26-07.html
I have heard lots of good reports on freeside apparently its not the easiest to get setup but it seems to work well for people and its free

Anyone using freeside? How do you like it? I'm playing with the demo and it seems pretty close to what I'm looking for, but I'm looking for someone that has it in service to give me a little feedback.

Hi,
I have been using freeside for a couple of years. It should do most (if not all) of what you need.

We have an entire backend solution built loosely on Platypus.
From the beginning, it presents the end user with a forced-redirect "activation page" where they confirm their name, address, etc. Choose a package, agree to TOS and contract, etc. Their account is built in Platypus then, and first bill is sent (or CC charged) immediately. Email accounts are setup, welcome letter is printed, etc.
In doing that, it also updates the config on their CPE (Canopy SM, MikroTik CPE, or UBNT device) with their name, and other config info applicable to your network.
From there, on the backend, we monitor signal levels of all CPE's. Throughput, and data transferred (so you could usage bill (or not, our customers just like seeing on their bill "wow I did 6GB this month!")).
Everything is fed into Platypus so your billing, management, ticketing, etc. is all in one location.
If you're interested, contact me directly. We have set this system up for a few ISPs. We can get as detailed as you want, or just the basics.

If you want "in a can" talk to these guys.

If you want a better solution, albeit one with more setup cost, FreeSide is it.
These guys can get you running at minimal cost.

They have a decent reputation for getting FreeSide running for not much money.
