Hi. I am setting up an Internet bridge between two houses using two NS Loco 5 units. I am making my own Ethernet cables to connect the radios to the PoE splitter and am wondering what wiring standard to use. Doing some research I see that there are various standards for Ethernet cables (EIA/TIA 568A and EIA/TIA 568B) and these use different colors or wires. According to one source you must use a pair of twisted wires to connect a set of transmitter pins to their corresponding receiver pins; you cannot use a wire from one pair and another wire from a different pair. So I was wondering if it is important to use a particular color code when making my cables. And are all 8 wires required? Thanks for your advice.

You can use either standard, as long
as you are consistent. But EIA 568B
is almost universal now.

[Either one will align transmit with
receive.]

All 8 wires are not required for 10/100
speed Ethernet, unless you also use
the 4 'spare' leads for PoE power. But
what would you do with the extra
leads? All 8 fit in the plugs and jacks. Dave
