Hi, I decided to try the NanoStation, Heard all the wonderful things about them.
What a breeze to setup. Most impressive and super price /performance.

Well I tested the configuration and installed a new NS2 on the a building, 5km Excellent LOS. Tested well, good signal, Ping Clear. Worked well , quick internet ..... then 30 minutes later .. dead Power led on . signal dead.
Unable to access unit via Ether as well.

My New NS2 seemed to have died as soon as load were applied.

Can I revive it? How?
Please help
regards :?:

Have you tried unplugging it then plugging it back in
if rebooting the unit does not allow access again then goto part 2
if yes then post your config file and check your grounding procedures

Something happen to the cable maybe or its faulty in some fashion
lightning or over voltage fried it
how long is the cat5 cable run
was the cat5 properly grounded
how many volts is the power adapter is it stock 12v

Thanx Max,
Cable is about 20m
NS2 was only up a few hours, no lightning.
"was the cat5 properly grounded" sorry, we used UTP. How do I ground it?
The stock standard 12v white PSU was used.

I curious about the grounding. Perhaps that is where I looses the plot

F

Can you access the unit again if its rebooted
if so does it freeze up again after a little while
For Cat5 Grounding I use these http://www.hyperlinktech.com/productfamily.aspx?id=385

Hello Alpha,

What version of the software are you running. Also when the link was connected what was the signal strength at?

- Do you see only a single Power LED and no LAN/WAN leds?

- did the unit get turned by Wind?

- Check the grounding like Max says.

Thanks,

Mike

I had an NS5 at a customers site go completelly dead on me. It has a power led on and nothing else. I connect to it via ethernet and it gives me a "network cable unplugged" error. I have tried reset, but nothig. Any clues? Would like to put the unit back in the field.

Test back at your office. Set up a known to be good NS, unplug the network cable from THAT NS and plug in the questionable NS. See what happens.

I bench tested it. The power light comes on, but nothing else happens. I dont even get a cable connection light on my nic card. I contacted ubnt support hoping I can rescue it.

You may have a bad patch cable. Try plugging it into a hub or something other than the radio. You might need to use a cross-over cable instead.

I now have a second NS5 with the same simptoms. The wireless side works just fine, but the ethernet port refuses to work. regardless of what cable I use, it shows the cable as disconnected. I tried resetting one of the units to factory defaults and it only connects to my virtual "UBNT" AP but I cant get back in it because is in the bridge mode in the factory settings. Any clues? Oh and I did send a suppport request to UBNT. Got nothing but robot answers.

"but I cant get back in it because is in the bridge mode in the factory settings."

Have you tried setting you computer to 192.168.1.99? Or 1.57, or 1.102...or anything other tan 1.20.

Hi Rarbolay,

I will resolve the robot answer issue. Can you forward me the response?

Hello Rarborlay,

Can you tell me how you have the etherent cable ran and are you using any Ethernet surge suppressors/lightning arrestors on these deployments?

Thanks,

Mike
