View Full Version : Don't force updates
Problem #1 - When you connect a new radio with older FW, AirControl forces an update to the most current (and possibly unstable) release.
Problem #2 - When you do an update, it forces the most current (and possibly unstable) release.
Problem #3 - Why can't we just select from a pull-down or whatever just the station we want to upgrade, and a choice to select which FW release.

You can only connect to a radio that has at least 3.4 FW. You can do the upgrade manually prior to connecting, the auto-upgrade is a convenience function that you don't have to use.
The upgrade function lets you select the FW out of the list of available firmware images for the specific device. If you have multiple loaded into AirControl, you will see a dropdown and can pick what you want to use.

I agree 100% with WHT on #1. I was "testing" out AirControl, and tried clicking on a few of the radios, next thing I knew I had clients offline which were being upgraded and I was never asked to do an upgrade.... VERY BAD UBNT!!!! Never should a radio be upgraded and rebooted without promting!!!
If AirControl can't connect because of older firmware, ASK "This device needs to be upgraded to a newer firmware. Upgrade now: Yes/No?"

Yup it aint fun
every less than perfect link that have that has been working well for months on 3.3.2
as soon as AC does its sneakey update to 3.5 the link is toast
I would be happy they would fix 3.5 or even better
add the monitoring script to 3.3.2
3.3.2 has been the most stable firmware of all

I understand your frustration with the 3.5 firmware, but as far as the upgrade goes, you get the information you ask for in the connect dialog before you click the continue button if you expand the details - checkbox on the top. If you look at the readme (http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/aircontrol/aircontrol_guide.html) prior to using the software, it states the firmware requirements in the connect/disconnect section. You can use 3.4, you don't need 3.5 for AirControl.

It's been a couple weeks since I tried out AirControl, but I never got the dialog you are referring to. If I feel up to it, I'll try it again, but I clearly remember that I didn't get anything that included any information that it was going to upgrade the devices.

readme= redneck azzwipe lol
That reminds me of a magazine ad about twenty years ago for some abrasive cleaning sponge, might have been 3M Scouring Pads...
Anyway, it showed a picture of toilet paper on a roll and caption said, "Just be glad we don't make toilet paper"
I have it laying around, outta scan it and post it (under the free license rule).
I understand your frustration with the 3.5 firmware
Frustration???
That's like comparing General Sherman's march into Atlanta to a Sunday afternoon family BBQ.

How about a warning at the top of the connect dialog if any of the radios selected would be upgraded?
3.3.2 unfortunately has not the management console agent functionality in it, hence cannot be used with AirControl.

That was there from day one, you just need to click the view details checkbox on the top and will see all details in the dialog for each radio.

Yeah, something like that would be good. Make sure that it is very clear, such as:
WARNING: DEVICES(S) HAVE BEEN SELECTED WHICH WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY UPGRADED TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH AIR CONTROL.
Or something like that. Just as long as it isn't hidden anywhere and pops up in a way that it can't be missed.
