Hi.

I have two LiteStation 2 boards. Im trying to get the console on the rs232 to work but have had no luck so far.

I dont get any output whatsoever. Atleast the bootlog should show, right?

I tried both 9k6 and 115k2 as speed. 8n1 and no handshaking och flow control .

Since the connector is missing on the board, i had to connect one myself. I guess that the pin assignments is standard? If not, is there any schemantics? The supportsite for this boards is seriously lacking in details (or am i missing some document) so i find myself guessing very often.

Any tips apriciated,

/Robert

Ubiquiti UART (LS5/LS2 JP1) ¶

pin1,2 -- 3.3V (Vcc)
pin3 -- SIN (RX)
pin5 -- CTS
pin7 -- RTS
pin9 -- SOUT (TX)
pin11,12 -- GND

You can use simple re-use Ericsson Data cable (MAX232CWE, ERI T39) RS232 or
Ericsson Data cable (T39/T68) USB.

Serial console setting are: 9600 8N1

Looks like you probably need a level converter, not sure if your standard RS232 computer connector would necessarily work.

Check out the MAX232 line of level shifters... you can get a little kit on sparkfun.com

PS. I agree with your comment on the lack of knowledge on the LS line of products. There doesn't even seem to be documentation specifying what type of antenna connections there are... I believe MMCX and possibly U.FL, but nowhere does it say.

MAX232 is what I use.

Thanks,

MAX232 is a 5v device.
I think you should use a 3.3v chip instead if it's powered from the LS2.
MAX3232 is one of those.
Futurlec has one for 5$

Hate to tell you but the device you referenced is using a Max232 chip... at least that's what they quote (it looks like it has a 3232 attached in the picture)... The 232 can run at either voltage rail. I'm not sure what the 3232 chip is specifically for since the 232 can run at either rail.

You are correct in the fact that the user should pay attention to the proper Vdd level. In the LS2 and LS5's case it is a 3.3v device from what I remember.

Whatever works... thanks for the link and observation.

I'm attempting to hook up via Serial to a Litestation SR71 that I have here so I can find out what is wrong. I understand I need a Max232 board so I can hook up via Serial. The board seems to simply convert from one set of pinouts to another. How do I hook an RS232 cable into that MAX232 board? Is there another plug I need to get?

I have ordered RS232 Shifter SMD from http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=449 and it works fine with NanoStation serial...
