Hi Folks;
I was looking at the AirView product for the 2.4 range but I don't understand what the difference is between these two;
AirView2 (2.4GHz, internal antenna)
AirView2-EXT (2.4GHz, external antenna)
I thought it came with a USB stick and that was the antenna?
How does this airview thing work? (I'm a newby and don't really understand it)
Thanks!

hi
as it says one has built in antenna, the other you plug one into it..
it is a spectrum analyser, useful for tracing non 802.11 interference sources etc..

I still don't get it - the cheaper version is the one with the internal antenna and the more expensive one is the external antenna.
I thought the USB stick was the antenna? Doesn't it come with an antenna? I'm not sure how it works with respect to the antenna. About all I know is that it's software that measures interference by means of an antenna.
I thought it would use the antenna in the laptop? Or that the USB stick was the antenna?
Ubiquiti really ought to make a simple directions sheet to kind of show how these things work for people like myself who've never seen one.
I was just on another site where someone was recommending a UB product and the person went to look at it and came back baffled because all he saw was a spec sheet.
Anway, I was thinking about buying the AirView product because it's cheap and I would probably learn something about wireless from using it. But I can't figure out which one of the two I should get. (I'm a WiFi newby) :icon_rolleyes:
A USB "stick" or "dongle" is anything you stick into a computer. Its a form factor thing.
The internal antenna version has a length of circuit broad trace as the antenna - no parts or labor cost to install.. The external version has a connector that requires labor to install. Thus the external one costs more.
It does not use the laptop's antenna.
Its is pretty straightforward, but it takes some skill and experience in understanding the results.
If you look back at some of the earlier posts in the forum, I've mentioned a few things about it. Mike sent me the very first they let loose about a year ago.
