Hello Seniors,
Iam in process of setting up a WLAN for a resort, engineers from coral wireless surveyed the area, and they have proposed their products on OMNI antennas. But i think since the area is in a single stretch (i have attached the google image), its about 1 km, can i install UBNT flat panel antennas two sets each at both ends point to each other(red spots in attached image.
Does it really work, or i have to go with omni outdoors at every 300 mts to cover it ? Your help will be appreciated.
Thank YOU
Ahj
What will the client radios be? Laptops? Wireless PDA/Smartphones?
Why did they assume all the client radios would have vertical internal antennas?
I'd get a second opinion from someone that knows wireless..

Dear WHT,
Its a resort actually beside a seashore, all the clients will have laptops 99%. They have done the site survery and concludede that by having an omni at every 300mtrs throught the path they could cover the area its around 1.2 KM in length and about 100 < in width. Their device MAKAIR Ploto supports builtin hotspot blah blah..
Your advise on this will be appreciated.
Can we use UBNT here ?? if so how best we can cover the aread.. pleassse
Thank YOU.

1) How many clients are you going to have at any one time?
2) What is the density of users around any single AP?
3) How much bandwidth are you going to have going into the resort?
4) Are you charging for Internet or giving it away for free?

1)Not more than 60-70 clients at any given point of time.
2)except the restaurant area where i think max 20 users will be there, remaing will be max 10.
3)I will have around 2 Mbps dedicated and 4 Mbps on dsl.
4)It will be charged one, where we will provides hourly or daily cards to guest at resort.

Then get a few Bullets, use a 12-15dBi omni antenna, Nano 5M Loco's to backhaul between the first 2 radios. You will need a couple of small switches. Thne get a Windows PC, Patronsoft Firstspot for authentication and management, you are done. Total cost for equipment about $4000 with a Windows PC.
