I guys Im a noob and im getting ready this weekend to put up my first PtP. What I would like to know is when aligning the antennas can a standard analog volt meter work for this or do I need to go buy the $800 dollar alignment kit... I know the radio's have the software to aid in this also but I was reading that the analog is better to use
Any anwsers would be helpful Thanks.

Don't read that stuff!
Use the built-in antenna alignment
tool on the radio. There is no
'analog' output to connect to
a voltmeter in any case.
What is this $800 alignment kit?
I need to start selling them. Dave

This is the kit dave and thanks for your relpy. I will use the radio tool to get the job done.

Wow! For that kind of bucks, I'd
be motivated to pop the cover
of a couple of Ubiquiti radios
and look for voltages to meter.
Have fun--you'll do just fine. Dave

"Analog" can be applied in so many ways, you have to understand the venue to make an informed decision. My low impedance analog voltmeter is more reliable than my digital voltmeter; my high impedance analog voltmeter is more accurate but not as precise as my digital voltmeter.
Let's consider the Antenna Alignment tool the UBNT OS uses. It has both an analog presentation with a series of colored blocks to represent the signal level and a digital presentation with a numeric value. The analog presentation is easier to read from a distance and the digital presentation is easier to remember the values.
In other words, "Gee, it shows two green blocks, three green blocks, now one yellow block. But I can't remember which was better several seconds ago." "Gee, it changed from -78 up to -71, and down to -81"
No matter which presentation you use, both are effective in aligning the antenna.

So, WHT, you think he'll do fine? Dave
As long as he uses the UBNT Antenna Alignment, he'll do fine.

Excellent! That was my thought too. Dave
