Folks,

Someone reported here that with Mac O/S X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Apple has enabled the JRE 6 option for ALL Intel Macs, not just the Core 2 Duos built after Oct. 2006. I'd really like to know if this is true and whether or not AirView app now works on these older Macs.

As we don't have a Mac that old in-house, I'd be willing to ship to someone a free AirView2 (or -EXT, your choice) *IF* you have one of these older Macs (Core Duo build PRIOR to Oct. 2006), and you're willing to help us out for a cool freebie.

First couple of eligible responders, win! Remember, you MUST have a Intel Mac built PRIOR to Oct. 2006, be willing to install O/S X 10.6 on it, and run the AirView app and send me screen shots. And obviously we're going on the honor system here, so no funny business. ;-)

Cheers,

I have a Mac Pro Xenon Intel Dual Core Quad Processor 2.66 ghz that I just upgraded to Leopard Snow. I'd be willing to to give it a try if you'd like.

I just looked at the box and the date stamp on the box from the retailer is 8/11/06. That I'm sure is when they got it. It must be built prior to that.

Let me know if this will help. I'm an avid Mac user as well.

Thanks!

Hey, since you seem to be interested, what's the chance of getting an APP for that so I can use my iPhone for access?

Hey Ramin -

I have one. I complained in the previous thread. Mine is the 2.16ghz Core Duo Macbook Pro Glossy. May 2006.

I'm certainly willing to help. If you prefer, I can install 10.6 temporarily and try it with my AV9-EXT in the meantime to tell you instead of waiting for the AV2. I just haven't moved to 10.6 because of some compat issues. I have an external drive.

Hey Ramin,

Have you heard back from Maxisfat yet? I have a Core Duo Macbook that I bought in May '06, and I've been interested in the AirView. I'm about to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I'd be willing to test it for you if you haven't gotten your two testers yet. Let me know.

Yes Mark, I have and I've already sent he and droobie their AV2 units, awaiting their testing/reply. Thanks for your interest and offer of help. I'll give these 2 guys a chance to get back to me first.

Airview does work on Snow Leopard with the regular Core Duo. I installed Snow Leopard on an external hard drive with my Z0DL-GLOSSY Macbook Pro 15.4 and it works fine. It doesn't work on regular Leopard (10.5.8) though. I was using my Airview9-EXT in Boot Camp because of this.

It's a compelling reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard if you don't intend to replace the laptop. My Z0DL was bought in May of 2006 and is a 2.16ghz Core Duo model. It does not support 64-bit at all (unlike the Core 2 Duo units). It also lacks Firewire 800 (something they added in the Late 2006 Core2Duo models).

That is excellent news droobie! Thanks for testing it. This means all those folks who were previously left out of the JRE 6 world can now upgrade to Snow Leopard and run any Java app that relies on JRE 6, not just AirView.

Yes, anything prior to 10.6 did not have a JRE 6 for the older Macs, so this is no surprise.

Yup, all you folks with older Core Duo Macs... there you go! Upgrade to 10.6 and you're set.

Great! Thanks again droobie.

Ramin,
Thanks for sending the Airview2 for testing. As I mentioned, I have a Mac Pro Xenon Intel Dual Core Quad Processor 2.66 ghz. I have Leopard Snow installed and upgraded to 10.6.1.

I then downloaded the software from your site and it is correct that when the Airview is installed in the USB port, it does show up in network connections which I just named Airview.

After launching the software program, all starts as expected. The program seems to run with no flaws of crashes. I ran it continuously for 2 1/2 hours. No glitches!

I would say this seems to operate fine with Snow Leopard. I also installed it on my 13" MacBook running Snow Leopard as well (Intel Core 2 Duo 2ghz, 1gig ram). No problems with it either, but you already knew that.

Snow Leopard is $29 and worth the upgrade if you need Airview.
