Hi,

My config is client mode on NS2, NLOS, 500 meters (very short distance).
I noticed that when using Auto ACK, the ack timeout value increase a lot, almost to the maximum, like if the link was 40km long ... But it seems to give better throughput, I keep 11Mbits at -80dbm.

What kind of ACK timeout value would you advice ? Leave auto ?
Keep static ?

thanks

Hello,

What version of the firmware are you on?

Thanks,

Hi mike,

I use the latest firmware (I guess), version 3.4.
(the AP on the other side is not ubiquiti, don't know if it's important)

Hi Mike,

Any idea ?

Thanks

more info:

currently:
ack timeout: 328
Transmit CCQ: 18%
Signal Strength: -86 dBm
TX Rate: 18 Mbps
RX Rate: 5.5 Mbps

the ack timeout is too high because the Signal Strength is very poor -86 dBm try to get more signal. what is in the middle of the link ? trees? buildings ? dont loss packets ?

The signal vary between -72 and -90 ... although i'm not moving the NS2 ...
Of course the ack timeout is smaller when it's -72 and to the top (>300) when the signal is poor like -86.

I got 1 or 2 buildings in the sight. No other access point on that channel though.

can you tell me which AP and antenna do you have at the other side
the signal variation is very much, i think you maybe you have some water in the antenna or some connector at the AP side

The other side is an ugly dlink with 2dbi omni ... not the best condition I know ...
But I'm also very surprised by the huge variation in signal.

No trees? We often see wild signal level swings when we have trees involved, even if they're not in the los. Sounds like multipath interferrence. Have you tried adaptive for the antenna setting, or perhaps changing the direction of the nano (sometimes slightly off line has helped us - lower overall signal, but more stable?) If you have no control over the AP perhaps a more focused antenna (panel or dish) and/or move up to a bullet-hp. If you can't beat the multi-path perhaps you can get the range swing into a more usable area. The Power Station's narrower beamwidth and better antennas also make them a good option.

Also to the original ACK, the actual distance plus 10% with "auto" unchecked has always served us well.

I have no trees in the direct sight, but it's possible in the fresnel zone...
You gave me nice clues, I'll try some stuff

for that distance you should have maximun 56 of ack.
This result for me.

Regards.

change that antenna or move the AP close to a window , i dont know how you can connect whit that antenna

I know ;)
It's not that bad thought, I expected worse result ;)
The signal isn't bad, the variation is more my problem.
