I'm a newbie with linux. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 distro. My question:
Has anybody used this Bullet with a linux box? I'm trying to setup a Captive portal for a small hotspot.
Modem > Linksys router > linux box (2 nics, auth0 facing internet, auth1 facing internal) > Bullet M2 Access Point.
The linux box sees the Bullet as "unknown device Pan0" sometimes.
I've set up an apache webserver and tried installing WifiDog Captive portal auth-server.
At one point I was able to get an IP on a wireless laptop connecting to the Bullet. But couldn't make any changes in Network config on linux box.
So, I guess the "atheros"? drivers on the Bullet were working with linux, but just couldn't do much with it...Probably due to my lack of knowing much about linux.
I'm about to throw in the towel and try Win7 RC with a pricey captive portal
Any suggestions?

Are you using a straight-thru or cross-over cable?

I'm now running a switch between the linux box local nic and the bullet ap. So at that point it shouldn't matter if it's crossover or straight thru, correct?

I believe the problem starts with the second (local) nic to share internet with local pc's or the Bullet.
This distro comes with an app called Firestarter. It's supposed to enable ICS. I believe i need to bridge the 2 nics. But..this, I think means editing the Network interface file. I've made a feeble attempt to do that but still no luck.
When I try to enable the ICS in Firestarter, it tells me "ath0 not ready".
I do think if I get that interface config file configured properly and have ath0 and ath1 bridged, my problems will be solved as far as getting the linux box to share it's IP.
I should probably take this to the Ubuntu forums.
Regards.

Man, I've learned the hardway, linux is not plugnplay!
I got the problem fixed. Only spent a weekend at it.
It was the bridging the two NIC's.
I edited the interfaces file and BLINGO!
Now I'm off to tag my first Hotspot user victim.
Regards.
