You guys have been a huge help so far..thanks so much. Dumb question #514 (but who's counting)

So I am trying to bridge a internet connection, a distance of about 1.6 miles. I followed the directions on the wiki and tried the connection locally and it worked fine. I have the equipment installed but when I goto to connect on my end (not the internet side) it shows no bars on the little network page of windows vista. So I log into the device and it shows a signal of -65dbm. So what does this all mean? I extremely new to all of this so your patience has been appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Matt

It sounds like you're looking at the signal strength bars in the Windows wireless connection window.

As far as the computer is concerned, the Nano is nothing more than another wired ethernet connection.

It looks like the wireless connection window which is why I thought it was odd that the lan connection was showing low connection and then dissapearing. If the nano is another lan connection and it is showing -65dbm when i log into it any idea why it would suddenly dissapear or show weak signal?

Are you logging in to the radio with it's IP address and seeing web GUI?

When I follow the wiki guide to connect to the nano (manualing entering the ip under card properties) I am able to log into the nano. When i switch things back to obtain IP I am not able to connect and for some odd reason under my lan card in my laptop it shows signal strength despite the fact its plugged into the lan of my laptop.

Sounds like the laptop's internal card is picking up someone other AP. If you Nano is not set as a router, then its not running a DHCP server and your laptop can't get an IP address.

As per the instructions on the wiki the nano is set as station wds. How would i be picking up someone elses ap on my wired lan connection. There is another nano being used about a quarter mile from me. Should I try another setting or plug it into a router rather than directly to the computer?

Again, thanks for taking the time to help me out
Matt

How would i be picking up someone elses ap on my wired lan connection. On your *wired* connection you are seeing someone else's wireless AP ? ? ?

No. It just says unknown connection. I do know that the other nano in the area has the ssid of UBNT. I am not seeing that. It just seems strange that I can log into the nano I am using but I am not able to to get a connection. If it shows a connection strength of -65dbm does that mean it "sees" the other nano I have set up where the actual internet connection is?

What is the SSID of the link u setup. and what is the name of the wireless that VISTA is connecting to. If the laptop has a wireless on/off switch try turning it off when plugged in the wired side.
