Hello, i have two NanoStation 2.4 GHz, i must to extend adsl line to another house by use of my two nanostation.
The configuration is:
one NS connected via ethernet to the router adsl, in "station" mode.
another NS connected with the first and configured in "ap" mode.
Protocol and PSK are identical.
The "ap" establish the wireless link, so if I connect with my pc to the wireless network configured on nanostation in "AP" mode I get the IP address from the DHCP server on the router, I can ping to the router but I can not navigate.
I ask you to support ...

ASDL / Router -- > AP(WDS) --> ((((( wireless link ))))) --> Station(WDS) --> {Ethernet} --> PC
I say to use WDS mode because I have seen some DHCP issues when not using it.

agsweeney,
I am confused on the WDS and why you need to use it in backhauls. and ap's?
I run an entirely routed MT network without WDS but I have a couple of Pico's out as hotspots most in ap mode without wds... are you saying putting it is ap wds will help?

I was having issues in the beginning with a machine (and radios) not being able to pull an IP from the DHCP server (located at head end) and Mike suggested putting the units into WDS - It was later stated by someone else that "WDS mode enables packet forwarding at layer 2 level....".
{INTERNET} --- {FIREWALL} -- {DHCP SERVER} --> {PS5} (((( Wireless Link #1 )))) {PS5} --> {SWITCH} --> {PS5} (((( Wireless Link #2 )))) {PS5} --> {Client Computer}
(The Client Computer is nestled nicely in the middle of a **** load of pine trees. The first hop hits a 100ft tower a mile away from it and shoots down at it from there.)
With WDS ON, that client computer can get a DHCP Assigned IP - With WDS OFF, it "sometimes" could not. It was the sometimes that drove me up the wall. One day it would and one day it wouldn't.

I do have some RB450's in the mix now, and I could turn off WDS on the backhauls and do the assignments from them at the remote points, but I have not taken the time to do that yet.

ok... i see a little better... I have never ran through a switch like. We have always routed when using either cisco or mt units...we used to use old cisco 1605r as routers till one they don't like -30F and two they could only handle about 10 nat translations at any given time.
we have pico's all over our town hooked to nano's that are bridge to a mt hotspot system that is a virutalAP on my .11g/b towers. Increase hotspot wifi coverage very inexpensively. I am wondering if we turn ap wds on the pico's if it would make any difference... right now things work good. they get their dhcp address from the mt unit at the tower level so.
{MT HOTSPOT AP Gateway / DHCP server} ((((Wireless Link)))) {NS2}<<<--->>>{Pico 2} ()()()()()() Hotspot Subscribers.

The easiest fix to this is to Change the AP to Station and the Station to AP. When using bridge mode the routing only works one way. So the config would be: DSL > Nano AP >((()))< nano "station" < switch < computer. You also could run the Nano station in Router mode and it will serve IP addresses to your computers.
