I am trying to connect two points of about 17 miles LOS. Will the NS5 and a 25db grid dish do the trick? If not reliably what would do it. This is a point to point backhaul in Costa Rica with plenty of rain... any advice would be much appreciated.
No way.......
The Nano 5 has 4 to 5 dB loss due to the circuit board trace feeding the external antenna port.
You are better off using the Bullet 5 and a 28 dBi grid at both ends.
While rain won't significantly degrade the signal, the temperature inversion associated with the rain will cause impairments.

Thanks for the quick response. This is for an ISP a I have down here. Is there something you could recommend then? Will the bullet stand up to it or is there an ISP solution by UBNT. The backbone is dsl with 8mgs and I don't see me running more then that for a few years. Lighting is a factor as well.
Thanks again WHT
A Bullet 5 with grounded metal 28 dBi grid and grounded shielded ethernet cable would be sufficient.

Thanks again, your saying a bullet 5 not the bullet5HP, correct? Also, I all ready have the 25db grid dish's will those work as well?
R.
The standard Bullet 5 would work. The Bullet 5HP would be 8 dB overkill.

I will give it a shot and thanks again. Apparently you guys know more then the folks at www.streakwave.com, those are the ones that sold me the NS5's for this application in the first place.
Also, now that I have these 4 NS5's. Can you give me an idea of how far I should be able to shoot them using 19db panel antennas? I might as well make use of them since we shipped them down here to Costa Rica. I have 1 6 mile hop and a few 3 mile hops.. If these will not cover it I will get bullets to replace them as well. Also, will the integrated antennas work for these hops instead of the panels?
This should be my last question....
