Hi Mike,
Is Airmax immune to 2.4ghz and 5Ghz interferace, since all non airmax cpe's and AP's will not identify (see) the airmax base station with airmax enabled?

Secondly, can the router station pro run the airOS or ikarusOS????

Thanks,

Gabby

Airmax it's a TDMA polling and can handle better the interference..

The router station pro can't run yet AirOS and I don't think so that Ikarus OS have a software build for it.

Handling the interference is about the CSMA in 802.11 networks.

I hope in Airmax system, CSMA is disabled. Otherwise no different than 802.11 stuff.

That it's what AirMax is with other bunch of new stuff... =))

It can probably handle it a little better, but don't get your hopes up.
If the channel is busy, there is no way around it.

There is a way around it as you know Nstreme does disable CSMA. I hope Airmax does it aswell.

TDMA polling without CSMA is the way to go. There is no meaning for an outdoor protocol to have CSMA.

Disabling CSMA is what makes it a little better but it's a MUCH smaller difference than a clean channel.

Disabling CSMA does not make noise or interference go away.

Hey Guys,

CSMA is not disabled yet with AirMax, however it has been optimized to a point to increase effectiveness in high noise enviroments.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, it's something equal Mike jejeje...

The new protocol can handle better the noise.

I am testing that a lot right know in a production environment.

And I will share the info.

Mike, could you be more specific on how the carrier sense decision is being made ?

Hello,

Its the standard mechanism, however the values for the paramaters of CSMA have been optimized for outdoor enviroments.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike;
This CSMA issue has to be discussed in depth because we do invest 100K for these protocols but anyone out there with a canopy can interfere and kill your network and your investment in a matter of second.

We really want to try a TDD system like yours but again CSMA is the weakest point.

I can safely run Mikrotik Nstreme backhauls carrying 60mbit/s bandwidth without CSMA so Im not scared from canopy interference. But think about replacing all my bachauls to Airmax immunue to Canopy interference .. Its a risk factor.

There is some Canopy and SkyPilot out here, but if I use half mile to one mile AP footrpint, I'm not gonna worry.

This is not a solution.

As Mike says, its not that easy to turn off CSMA. Even though he says that CSMA has been optimized for outdoor operation, that doesn't really tell you its going to be immune from a Canopy.

Disable CSMA/CD in 802.11 needs hacking of the driver part. A lot of peoples has done it on 802.11 a/b/g but not 802.11n.

I think Nstreme does work with 802.11n without CSMA.

Nstream supports 802.11n with CSMA disable?

Please show me the link to this claim.
