Hi, we currently use NS5 as AP and NS5 for customers. We already have a few hundred customers with ns5 as their cpe. We are very interested in starting to use the rocket Airmax as AP, but are not sure if we can still connect this ns5 running AirOS 3.4 to the AirMax Rockets as AP.
Do we have to change all this customers to the new Nanostations? Can we have mixed users, the new customers having the new nanostation with airmax and the old ones with the regular ns5 with airos?
Also wanted to know how many customers (CPE) can we connect to this new AirMax Rocket acting as AP.
Thanks
FC

The answer is yes but then you don't get any advanced N features. You simply get a 400MHz powerstation effectively.
This has been asked 10 times at this point. Search the forum.
Pre-M hardware does not support AirMax. Pre-M CPEs can't connect to APs with AirMax ON. If you want Pre-M CPEs to connect to M APs, you must turn off AirMax for all CPEs.

If you use the M Series products for handle legacy products will be the same thing that has the old gear the only different it's the CPU.
But some features like packet aggregation doesn't work = that with the old versions. And later on will have troubles of compatibility. So my recommendations it's install a new AP and move all the high usage bandwidth user to the M Series product line.

Ok, understood :). We will be better adding new rocket AP and moving power users to the new equipment and leave the others.
What about how many cpe can the rocket manage per sector, 300?
Thanks for the answers!
What about how many cpe can the rocket manage per sector, 300? In theory yes, but will your internet connection support that many, they may only get 10x dialup speeds.

It was said before that 300 subs was the total for a complete base station including 3 to 4 sectors with 3 to 4 radios...with Airmax at 40Mhz
Read the doc carefully about it...

Man, no way that a single to rocket support 300 clients......
If you read the info clear said with 3 up to 4 sector will handle 300 clients.
The actual TDMA protocol are not a miracle....
60-70 clients per sector will be great that basically it's the triple of the actual 802.11 recommended connections per AP.
