Rocket:
Can you use a single antenna, and use it in AP mode much like a bullet? What would the expected performance be? Same as bullet or can it handle more clients? (thinking of using this with an onmi antenna for small pops, then upgrade to sectors as needed)

If the Rocket is using dual antennas, the client is further away than the Nano can support, do you need a dual polarity antenna for the client, are there 2 antenna ports on the new Nano's. Can you explaine how this would work. In other words, what happens when a client is say 6-8 miles away? (like most of mine)

One of our biggest problems as a WISP is the peer-2-peer file sharring as it bombards the AP's with so many small packets. We currently limit packets per second to smooth this out and not let one client hog the AP. With Airmax, this will not be needed as it will limit the clients packets to its own time slices, thus doing its own "Packet Limiting". Am I understanding this correctly?

I currenty have a couple links using PacWireless dual polarity solid dishes, can I use a Rocket with these?, do I need a new feed horn, must the cables be of exact length, are they paired by length or delay as measured through the cable?

I currently use StarOS as my router/AP's, Can you tell me about support for:

RIP - do not see any routing protocals?

OLSR - provides automatic route failover to gateway or supports multiple gateways.

MASQ - to associate one IP to another or a subnet to a single WAN IP much like NAT only for multiple subnets on the wireless interface.

Static Routes - added to gui to make easier. (I see you can display, but can only set by cli.)

A major trouble shooting tool I use (Called beacon on StarOS) is to see what a client is xmit/rec. I can see bandwidth used tx rx, IP's accessing, ports, etc. Will something similar to this be incorporated?

Thanks for your time, I am excited about this announcement, just trying to see how it will fit into my existing network. I'm not trying to make it compatable with existing AP's or StarOS, just want to understand it more.

Hi ,
i really like your product but every time you launch a product it's take 6 month to get hand on it :) so do you accelerated your product shipping or i have to wait since next summer to get acccess to the new line of product... In enough quantity... Because every time a new product get out i only take hand of 1 to 8. And a easy install over 50-60 antenna a month...

Hey Tim,

The rocket cannot be used without 2 antennas as it will adversly affect the units.

You can use an type of dual polarity antennas with rocket as long as they have high isolatino between the chains.

You can use an intermixed networks of Rocket (Ap's) Bullet M and Nano M clients without issues.

We do not support routing protocols at the AP and recommend you do this on the backend.

We support MASQ and Static routes.

We also have basic firewall functinoality.

As for the Peer two Peer thiswill still be a problems as they heavier load clients will get a larger time slot to fill and will hammer the AP just as much. Peer to peer should be limited on the backend as well, as with any wireless install.

For productions, the units will be at distributors this weekend through next week.

Thanks,

Mike

Actually AirOS can go further than what's on the web interface by using CLI.
Although the AirOS Linux kernel hasn't all the modules to do full netfilter trickery, we've found a way to a "good enough" solution that made AirOS 3.x devices our solution of choice for 802.11g radios.

But, it's always nice when a vendor underpromise and overdeliver, so try the CLI a bit to see if it really can't be done.

Mike,

You said the Rocket would be adversly affected by using only one antenna. I buy that but would it be possible to have a firmware option to turn off the second chain or is that a feature built into the hardware?

The reason I ask is, due to the lack of availability of the Nano5M, I've been using Bullet5HP as a substitute, something I don't see myself using much after the Nano's become easier to get hold of. I do, however, see using the Rockets much more so if I could use the Rocket with a single grid or panel until I can get more Nano5M, it would be perfect.

If it is a matter of both chains having a load, would a dummy load on chain 2 work or will the Rocket attempt to use both and thus lose data?

Looking for a work around.

Thanks!

Bob, the Rocket currently has no way to turn
off one chain. The radio's logic needs both
chains operating; a dummy load would not work. Dave

Okay, thanks for the answer. Was worth a shot.
