I was wondering if I implement 802.11n in my network with already 802.11b/g existing would this downgrade the entire network to 802.11b speeds?

I've heard different respones and was just wondering. I also heard that it would only default to 802.11b speeds if you were to access a PC using 802.11b.

The current 802.11n standard allows the backward compatibility with legacy 802.11 a/b/g devices with protection mechanism. Thus, if you are not operate in Green Field mode (all 802.11n devices), even if you are 802.11n device and others are not, you will not get the full speeds, such as 130Mbps for 20MHz bonding at 2.4 and 300Mbps for 40MHz channel bonding.
