As far as I recall on the old Bullet2s if I run a site survey from the AP the STA will temporarily be dropped from the AP until the scan is done then reconnect.

On the new BulletM2s I have I installed the AP then ran a site survey. Closed the survey and went to the other tower to install the STA, but when I logged into the STA it could not connect or see the AP. I had to call back to the office and have someone change the channel on the AP and apply the settings then the unit connected. He then ran a site survey again the AP disappeard from the STA and did not come back until he changed the channel back and applied the change.

Is this how it is supposed to function? It seems the site survey locks the AP in survey mode even after you close the survey window.

I've never seen that happen...but....

On a side note, Rory was telling me the other night when he placed the AP into "compliance mode" (to increase the number the AP would scan), the Station side would loose the connect. But when he tried it in U.S. mode, it didn't drop the connection.

I explained that when its in site survey mode, the AP receiver was changing channels and no longer listening to the Station, so the Station dropped the connection. Because it was in compliance mode, it was spending a lot of time off the normal link channel, but in U.S. mode the time off channel was significantly less and the Station stayed connected or at least wasn't un-connected for any noticeable interval.

Well, the bulletm2s are in US mode, and the STA was installed 1.5hrs after I ran the site survey on the AP, but it would not connect until I changed channels then applied the change.

Hy Sbyrd,

I am checking this in the lab.

Thanks,

Mike

So you are using a bullet2M for the Client/AP? If so did you try a normal PS2/NS2 for the client?

I am using the M2s as a ptp 9mile backhaul, so I can not test it with a NS2 or PS2. I need the extra bandwidth 802.11n provides so even if it functions with a NS2 it will not be useful to me (will lose benefits of n protocol).

Yes, but for troubleshooting purposes to detect whether this is a bug I was suggesting to try a NS2/PS2 client to see if they exhibit the same behavior. This might help pinpoint the problem whether it's AirOS5 in AP mode, or AirOS5 in client mode that is the problem, right now it's difficult to tell without using gear that works for sure.

I'm also not sure what kind of bandwidth bump you will see with N over G/A, my understanding is that the new BulletM's are just capable of processing more packets out the ethernet port because of the increased CPU, not necessarily because of the N protocol, although N has some improved efficiencies.

At the moment, I'm using a Nano 5 as a distribution backhaul and it connects to several Bullet M5 radios. I'll replace the Nano 5 with a Bullet M5 and sector antenna soon.

How can you run a site survey when you are in AP mode ?
That option is not available on my BM2....

edit
Sorry, forget that, i didn't see the drop down menu...
But I tried that site survey, and my client associated correctly !!

That option is not available on my BM2....Oh really...Interesting. I can run a Site Survey from a Bullet M5 in AP or Station mode.
