Currently living in a log-cabin in the deep woods, halfway between the Equator and the North pole: 45N and (approx) 74W
Needless to say, I am limited to dial-up, with a 3COM V90 router connecting my small wireless (and Cat5) network- Ubuntu, Win7, Vista and W2K on machines of various sizes - to the internet.
The crappy BELL TELEPHONE copper is still buried underground after 40 years!
Take a look at My 1996 BELL BOUTIQUE BAG (http://www.aqk.ca/bell.php) to get the idea!

Worked 40+ years in IT, mostly in TechSupport.
Now retired, so I have a LOTTTT of time to fool around with this stuff.
There's wireless available here, and of course the crappy Sat systems, but it costs an Armand Aleg.
So lookin' for an inexpensive alternative PtP system, which I may expand to neighbours as a PtMP system, using some friends' broadband systems a few miles away.
