The process appears simple but I have had no success with this. I always get a message that the upgrade file is a bad image (or some such message). I have downloaded the firware several times in case it had become corrupted during download but this makes no difference.
Am I missing something?

Are you trying to upload the image to the unit through the LAN connection or wirelessly? If the latter, try it with the LAN connection. We have had a couple of Pico's that won't take the upgrade, but in our case they say they're doing it - then reboot with the same firmware (old) listed. Have you tried doing a hard reset (with the button on the unit) before uploading the image?

I'm doing it via a LAN connection and the unit was fresh out of the box. I'll try your suggestion of a hard reset. Thanks.

Unfortunately the hard reset makes no difference. Neither does a different browser or disabling the firewall.
Any ideas from the Ubiquiti guys? Thanks.

Brings up a question for me on the hard resets. The Nano's will go into the light flashing pattern anytime I press the reset button for about 10-15 seconds, then I pull the power and fire them back up to factory defaults. The Pico2's will only do a hard reset if I hold the reset button on while powering them up - then power cycle and they're good. Is this the right, or have I just been lucky with the Nanos? Is there a way to get a reset to factory defaults through SSH? That would save some climbing!

hold the reset button on while powering them up
Puts the unit into URescue mode. I've tested it with Nano 5 radios. As for SSH entrance to URescue, I don't think so. Ask Mike.

I'm not sure about the hard reset issue - maybe it didn't actually work when I tried it.
No matter. Mike has solved the upgrade problem. There is now a bona fide file on the downloads which works.
Thanks Mike.
I leave the question about hard resets to you!

Hey Guys,

We are looking into the reports of the hard resets.

Thanks,

Mike

I just had a Nano this afternoon that took three URescues to finally get it to work.

Our most dependable method of updating the Pico's has been to start them up while holding the reset button until the lights start their little dance pattern (URescue mode) - then we use a PC with a simple TFTP program and shove the firmware into them at 1.20. It works the most often.

Is it just my imagination or are these little guys the a PITA compared to all other UBiquiti products? They're cute little fellas and the clients love them, but they take about 5 minutes to fully boot and half the time they lock up if they're not connected to a LAN cable. They seems to lose distant AP's more often then any other (not a great distances either) and at the moment are leading our service call list.

I swore them off last week until we couldn't find Bullet2-HP's anywhere, but found some 800mw Pico2-HP's.

hi,

not sure if its related but the 3.4 fw gave us problems , get 3.3.2 if you can as no known issues have cropped up on that revision with us since its release.

also make sure you get the right firmware for pico's, think it is the 8MB version.
