Hi i am trying to get an orphanage up on the internet by building a long range wireless ethernet bridge to access DSL. They are about 12 km out of town, so a radio link is a good idea, or we could go sat, however DSL is pretty cheap, about $50 a month, so that would save a lot of monthly costs if I can get them up on a radio system. They have a 20 year old radio system to link their facility to a radio tower 12 km away. the big tower in town is about 100 ft high, and their tower is about 30 ft high. not sure if they have perfect line of sight. One person says here in brasil that you can't use 900 Mhz equipment because the cell systems use that band, and that only 2.4 and a higher band are available. It seems the ubiquiti equipment is extremely sensitive, so sensitive that the power requirements are low. ANd it appears to be very inexpensive, which is nice because the orphanage only gets... and you won't believe it.... 30 centavos per kid per day from the govt. that is 15 cents per day... just enough to almost cover the toilet paper budget.... the regular 2.4 Ghz systems i have seen will cost about $1600 per side..anyway do you ubiquiti experts out there know how to set up an ethernet bridge with their gear?

This seems straightforward, mm.

The only glue on the butterfly is
what you mean by 'not sure if
they have perfect line of sight'.

What in fact is in the path? How
high are obstacles and where
are they placed? Perhaps using
Google Earth will help.

And perhaps you can describe
the use of the current radio
system. Perhaps you can also
replace that application.

Sorry--can't help w/toilet paper. Dave

PS: In the future, you'll get better
response to questions if you post
them in the relevant section.
