I just received the SR71-E. When I installed the card into my laptop in place of the wireless card that it came with and restarted the laptop, it gave an error of wireless card not supported. Please advise me on how to install this card. Thanks, Mark

Im sorry to have to tell you this but it won't work im afraid, for some reason HP/Compaq laptops have a hardware lock on certain devices so you cannot use generic or 'off the shelf' products.
I know this due to the fact I wanted to upgrade my HP Laptop wireless card also.
Google could be your friend, search for a fix/hack.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

...to be clear this is not an issue with the card or Ubiquiti product compatibility!
Have you tried resetting the BIOS battery?
I had to do that on several of my Compaq laptops when I install new hardware, i.e wireless card and hard drives.

I contacted HP Support and they said I needed to install the correct driver. I went to the Ubiquiti site and downloaded what I believed to be the driver. But it still gave me an error that the wireless card was not supported . Therefore, how do I go about resetting the battery bios?

I have Windows Vista x64 bit and after I copied what I believed to be the proper driver onto a DVD and tried to install that way, Windows Vista said the Driver was not a x64 bit driver. Will Ubiquiti please help me!
Physically remove the disk battery, they call it a RTC battery. Wait five minutes and stick it back in. It clears all your CMSO BIOS settings.

Hello,
Can you see the card in the Device Manager? I know any HP Laptop I use here will not even boot with the device in. This is not a limitation of our card, but a limitation and close mindedness of HP.
Thanks,
Mike

No. I can not see the card in device manager. When I spoke with HP Technical Support they said they were not blocking my installing the card. They said I needed to install a Driver from Ubiquiti. I have Vista x64 as my operating system.

I am not able to get it to boot, as it comes up with the error that the wireless card is unsupported. I have to physically remove the Ubiquiti card to get my laptop to boot.

Hello,
Yes this is a limiation of the HP hardware. They do not allow the installation of 3rd party manufacturers cards. I get the same error here on my HP. Other manufacturers do not use this close minded process for 3rd party hardware changed.
Thanks,
Mike

I have too purchased the SR71E and it will not let me go past the bios. It states that the network card is not recognized, please remove card and restart. I have managed to get the windows scrolling bar up and then put the card in before the log in screen pops up and have found the card in the device manager. Which brings me to the conclusion also that the other guys are right and that HP is doing this on purpose in the bios to not allow other cards than the ones that HP approves of. The machine I'm using is an HP Pavilion dv6275us with Vista 32 bit. I updated the bios to the current one as of today and still no luck.
did you try this?

No I have not yet. I read it in one of the earlier post but it slipped my mind. Will try that as soon as I get it in my hands again. But on another note, I've been on the hp forums and it looks like that, a lot of hp's have issues with atheros based wireless cards. Even the ones that come out of the box with the laptops. I liked hp till now. They're support is getting worse day by day. They need to step it up or it'll go down quick for them. I've had way better luck with toshiba, dell, and acer then hp. I think its a shame.

Ok so hears what happened. The pulling the battery for 5 min does not work. Doing more research online I have found that this is in the bios for sure and that there are work arounds on hp laptops. The dv6000 and dv9000 have the easiest of them all, from what I've seen. Basically you have to edit the bios firmware. All it took was changing a 9 in F9 to an 8 in the bios via hex editor. Really easy. I have now a HP dv6275us working with the newest firmware and my Ubiquiti SR71-E wireless card. Here is a link to where I found all my info. I take no credit for this. These guys are the brains behind all of this and have taken alot of time to come up with a fix. hxxp://www.natxhacks.com/?p=10 make sure to change xx=tt
Also I nor the author of the workarounds or anyone for that fact, take any responsibility for a damaged bios or bad flash, you are doing this on your own and take the responsibility into your own hands. With that said, many have used this workaround flawlessly. If you don't know much about hex editing etc, etc then you should READ READ READ and then when you think you got it down you should read some more just to be sure.
Hope this helps some of you out there that know that you want something better then what the stock card is and just don't know where to look. Well its here now.
Let us know if this helped you.

So how's that card working out for you? Any real world numbers or results to report?

It works great. I had no issues with it. I only did a little testing on it. After, I gave the laptop back to my brother. Since it was his. He says that he does see an improvement in his connection in his daily usage.

Ok so its been 7 months now since I got the Ubiquiti SR71-E wireless N card working on my brothers laptop which is a HP dv6275us (dv6000 series) Card still works great. The range is great on it too. I have posted a link to the instructions in an earlier post here. This workaround will allow any kind of card to work on you dv6000 or dv9000 series laptops. It is a great workaround. I have seen other ones that edit the device info in the card itself and that is more time consuming plus you need knowledge of linux to be able to do that. I didn't want to go that route so I kept digging and found this fix and I love it. Good Luck guys.
