Hello GLC,

We have not released drivers for the SR71 series at this time. Upon release, only LSX will support the SR71 until other manufactures add in support for the Atheros 802.11 Mimo products.

Thank you,

Mike

Hello GLC,

Yes, these cards only work on LSX for the time being as other software vendors have not put Atheros 802.11 N support in yet.

Thank you,

Mike

Wait...
SR71-A Product Page (http://www.ubnt.com/products/sr71a.php) says (in the upper left corner) that it will be "powered" by Ubiquiti's "Radio Driver".
And the current "Radio Driver" includes a wide range of HALs for different platforms (e.g i386 et al)...

So how come that all upcoming atheros 802.11n cards only are for LSX?

Or is it more like: that I could use the AR9001/AR9160 anywhere (even on ia32), but only in 802.11gb(a) mode until madwifi/ath5k catches up?

Regards,
SIGNUKE

Hello Signuke,

The HAL is still in beta and not "technically" released yet, so I was saying for the time being LSX will be the only "plug and play" board for SR71. Once the HAL is fleshed out it will work fine with SR71 allowing you to use these cards on any Linux based hot platform.

Thank you,

Mike

Thanks... :)

So, there won't be only one single (completely binary) driver like the one Sparklan provides for their cards... right?

There is a AR9160 Driver available. It is for IXP425 big-endian.
The following is its download link.

Hi Mike:

When will the SR7-A for Linux be available? It is a month ago since your previous post.

Thank you

I could compile OpenWrt with 2.6.21.6 kernel and run the SparkLAN driver on it with SR71-A. (It seems it is based on the Madwifi driver. "iwpriv" provides the similar options.) However, in iperf tests (w/ UDP option), the max rate was around 17Mbps all the times. Do I need to make some more settings to get more than 100Mbps? How can I enable 802.11n?

Hi, Is there an update regarding the HAL ? Is there a stable or even a beta test release to test for Linux ?

Would be extremely interested to see the cards capabilities on an alix embedded board

Looks like it's time for the monthly post inquiring about linux drivers for 9160 chipset.
Any update about availability?
I have 2-SR71A's sitting on a shelf just waiting to be abused.

Hi everybody,

it looks like ath9k linux driver is now working also in AP mode. The chipset mounted on your AR-71x minipci cards is listed as supported. Moreover, in the openwrt forum many succesfull installation reports are starting to appear w.r.t. 802.11n wifi routers.
Any positive experience with the ubiquiti cards?

Hello,

I have not had a chance to test this, but if it is true this is excellent news. Any standard Ath 9k driver can run our cards without issue as our LiteStation SR71 firmware is based off that.

Thanks,
Mike

is it possible to run madwifi with SR71A card? I'm going to test ath9k driver and was told it's not very robust yet. 802.11n that is.

Hello,

We are not working on, nor will support a Linux driver directly. The Ath9k team is working on the open source community driver at this time and all support will be handled through them.

Thanks

Mike

OpenWrt project has many users with ath9k driver now. We have found consumer routers with this line of chips from various companies. In January 2009 ath9k was ported to the AHB bus by OpenWrt. This enables the routers based on ar9130/ar9132 chipsets (ar9102/ar9103/ar910x RF).

As of now, it still isn't working that well and lacks features such as WDS.The more people involved reporting bugs and problems to ath9k-devel mailing list the better (Atheros employees and other open source participants).

Lots of ath9k threads here: http://forum.openwrt.org/viewforum.php?id=10
